My Journey at Sookmyung Women's University
서울특별시 용산구 청파로47길 100

This post shares a firsthand experience of student life at Sookmyung Women's University, written after completing the first year as a freshman. It covers the admission 고민, orientation memories, and how campus life actually feels once the semester begins.
From department orientations to student council activities, this review aims to help prospective students understand the real atmosphere of Sookmyung, especially for those deciding between universities after early admission results.
Choosing Sookmyung Women’s University
Hello everyone. Several months ago, I wrote about my feelings after entering university, and now I’m finally sharing my experience at Sookmyung Women’s University as promised.
Even after being accepted, I struggled with the decision for a long time. Concerns about living in Seoul, balancing work, and adapting to a new environment kept me hesitating. Looking back now, those worries have all settled, and I’m genuinely enjoying my university life.
Department and Major Life
I am currently enrolled in the Global Service Department, majoring in Entrepreneurship. The department atmosphere is supportive, and collaboration with related majors creates a broader academic environment.
As the semester started, department-wide meetings and orientations helped new students get acquainted. Even if you feel hesitant, participating makes it much easier to adjust and meet classmates.
New Student Orientation Experience
On February 19, 2024, I attended the new student orientation held at Jangchung Gymnasium. Departments were seated together, and Global Service students joined with Global Cooperation and Entrepreneurship majors.
I was unsure whether to attend at first, but I strongly recommend it. Even attending just the morning session made me truly feel like a university student.
During the orientation, I received several gifts, including a laptop pouch, hoodie, and keychain. These are items I still use today, making the experience even more memorable.
Student Council Activities and Benefits
By paying a 10,000 KRW student council fee, students gain access to various benefits. These include planners, coupons for nearby stores, and snack distributions during exam periods.
For students who work during the day, evening distribution times are available, which makes participation much more accessible.
Our department’s student council organizes events throughout the year and is very supportive. Even if you miss some activities, joining events like MT is a great way to build friendships.
Academic Life and Final Thoughts
Exam periods can be challenging, but the overall study atmosphere is motivating. Seeing classmates work hard encourages you to stay focused and disciplined.
I’m currently maintaining a GPA in the 4.0 range and aiming for top honors by graduation. University life is busy, but with proper time management, it can be very rewarding.
If you are currently deciding which university to attend, take your time and choose carefully. I hope this honest review of my first year at Sookmyung Women’s University helps you make that decision.
If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment. I’ll try to share more about my sophomore year experience soon.
