Today, we met with artist Masi Lee, who operates emotional art classes under the motto of 'Small Art in Life Embracing Nature'!
Hello. Before we begin the interview, please introduce yourself briefly.
Hello, I am Masi Lee, an artist at Mas Art Studio, creating small art in life embracing nature.
I run a resin art studio near Suji-gu Office Station in Yongin.
I am also working as an exclusive artist at the handmade platform "Idus".
What kind of place is 'Mas Art Studio'?
It started as a concept of an artist's workshop.
For your information, the artworks are sold only through online platform "Idus" as custom-made.
We operate one-day classes, hobby classes, and regular classes based on resin art, dough art, and mini terrariums.
What motivated you to run 'Mas Art Studio'?
Mas Art Studio opened around the end of COVID-19.
Before that, I was selling on Idus and working from home.
Making small props can be done at home, but I wanted a workshop because I was thirsty for large-scale work.
So, I made up my mind and settled in Pungdeokcheon-dong, not far from home. Already five years have passed.
I was a little worried because it wasn't a location where a workshop would be, but at first, it was a personal workshop, so I signed the contract right away because of the good lighting. haha
What are the unique features of 'Mas Art Studio' that differentiate it from other stores?
It is a space where you can directly see and feel the artist's workshop, not a beautifully decorated interior.
It is located on the 7th floor of the building, which is different from general workshops located on the 1st floor.
Everyone who comes to the class is surprised that there is a workshop in such a place because it is located in a downtown area. haha
But when they come in, they say it's like seeing an art gallery and the artist's personal workshop. They also take pictures. There is a corner where artworks are exhibited separately.
What kind of concept and philosophy do you have when running 'Mas Art Studio'?
The motto is "Small Art in Life Embracing Nature".
We create artworks with the theme of "nature" and aim to make people feel like they own a small piece of art while also being useful in daily life.
My major was oriental painting, and I jumped into the illustrator market because I wanted to make money with paintings.
I didn't want to end up just hanging and appreciating the paintings on the wall. I wanted to draw pictures that are used in real life.
I worked like that for over ten years, but I felt tired of drawing and had no regrets about this market.
I was looking for a new path and accidentally encountered resin art.
I still find it amazing that I am doing something that involves making things.
I still wanted to create artworks that can be used in real life, not just artworks.
So, I started making interior accessories and home decor products.
The reason why "nature" is the theme is because I like the sea.
We create home decor products with sea scenery, forests, and springs.
What is the most memorable episode while running the store?
Before doing this, I worked as a picture book writer as an illustrator.
I had been working from home for over ten years, but unlike when I was dealing with business partners one-on-one,
Now I am dealing with an unspecified number of customers and doing "sales" for the first time.
It was a big challenge for me to do everything alone.
Rather than having a special episode, I am proud of myself for starting a completely new field and running it until now. ^^
Last year, I also received the Excellence Award in the Home Living category at Idus.

I recommend it to those who live in Yongin Suji, Gwanggyo, and Jukjeon and want to have a special art experience with their children,
Those who are thinking about taking up a new hobby after retirement, those who need time to heal after work, and couples who are planning a special date.

What do you want to achieve or dream of at 'Mas Art Studio' in the future?
I am currently selling online, but someday I want to go to art fairs or domestic exhibitions to showcase my artworks and communicate with people offline.
Every customer who sees and orders online tells me that the actual product is much prettier and cooler. ^^
