In life, one may face sudden economic crises or unavoidable circumstances
That make it difficult to secure even a single meal.
However, some may hesitate to seek help due to complicated paperwork or proof requirements.
For such individuals,
Gyeonggi-do has a warm policy that provides support 'just like that.'
'Gyeonggi-do Just Dream' serves as a strong support for households in urgent crisis.
The 'Gyeonggi-do Just Dream' program, as its name suggests,
Allows those facing sudden livelihood crises
To receive food and essential items for free without any application or complicated conditions.
The core of this program is
'Proactive support and subsequent welfare connection.'
It serves as a bridge by providing items first to those who urgently need to address their hunger,
And then connecting them to necessary welfare services through consultations.

This program started last December
And has been piloted at 11 locations in Gyeonggi-do until April this year.
From May to December, it will expand to a total of 22 locations
(11 pilot locations + 11 additional locations).
Target: Anyone residing in the area who is facing livelihood difficulties, regardless of income criteria.
Content: 3-5 food and essential items per person (within 20,000 won).
Items: Staple foods, grains, noodles, bread, seaweed, canned goods, and daily necessities.
Method: Personal information is collected during the first visit, and items are provided after handing out a leaflet. For subsequent requests, consultations will be conducted to connect to social welfare services.
Review of the warm-hearted site 'Dongducheon Angel Food Bank'
I visited the 'Dongducheon Angel Food Bank,' a participating site of the Gyeonggi-do Just Dream program.
Although it is located away from the city center,
I observed users continuously visiting,
And I realized that good policies move the hearts of citizens,
Encouraging them to come forward.

Inside the facility, social workers and volunteers have neatly organized
Shelves filled with 'Just Dream' packages,
And a 'Just Dream Corner' displays easy-to-access food items like instant rice, ramen, and seaweed,
Along with essential items like toothpaste, toothbrushes, and soap.

The process to utilize the Just Dream facility is very simple!
Visit the Food Bank: Go to the nearest 'Just Dream participating site' food bank (market).
Fill out the application: Complete a simple application for identity verification (name, contact information). This is minimal information for future welfare service connections.
Receive the Just Dream package: Submit the application and receive the item package.
One user I met on-site said,
“I heard from my neighbor that they give away necessary items for free,
And I came here with skepticism, but I found it comforting to take home food I urgently needed without any hesitation.”

Jeon Seung-geun, the social worker in charge of the Just Dream program at the Dongducheon Angel Food Bank, said,
“We prepare 220 Just Dream packages each month,
And they are almost all consumed at the beginning of the month,
So later users have to register as waitlist members due to high demand.
It is rewarding to receive thanks from users,
But it is unfortunate when we cannot provide support in time due to item shortages.
I hope we can operate in a way that ensures items are available whenever those in need come to us.”
Through conversations with Jeon Seung-geun,
I felt that the Just Dream program goes beyond merely distributing items,
It cares for our struggling neighbors as if they were family,
And conveys the warmth of the community.
Gyeonggi-do's 'Just Dream' is a minimal safety net
That helps all residents ensure a basic quality of life.
If you know anyone in your vicinity struggling due to a sudden crisis, please inform them about 'Gyeonggi-do Just Dream.'
Together, we can create a 'Gyeonggi of Opportunities' where no resident is left behind.
