Iksan Chicken Festival: A Celebration of Culture and Flavor

Welcome to the Iksan Cultural Arts Street!
The Chicken Festival is back this June!
On May 16th and 17th, a special festival called 'Wise Chicken Road - Our Time' took place in the cultural arts district of Iksan, right next to Iksan Station. This event featured a delightful combination of chicken, beer, retro performances, and interactive programs, attracting numerous visitors from day to night.
As the sun set and the street was illuminated by strings of light bulbs, the atmosphere transformed into something truly special. The air was filled with the enticing aroma of fried chicken and the sounds of live performances echoed through the alleys, creating a sense of excitement throughout the festival.
Do you know about Chicken Road, the heart of Iksan's old town?
This festival was held in the area around Central Road in Iksan, also known as 'Iksan Cultural Arts Street,' which is famous for its concentration of chicken restaurants, earning it the nickname 'Chicken Road.' It is conveniently located in the center of the old town, easily accessible from Iksan Station.
At the center of this street stands the 'Iksan Modern History Museum.' This historic building, characterized by its red brick and arched windows, was originally the Samsan Clinic, opened in 1922, and is now designated as Cultural Heritage No. 180. During the festival, the square in front of the museum served as the main stage, buzzing with performances and food activities both day and night.
Have you ever stepped inside the Modern History Museum?
While enjoying the festival, I took a moment to explore the museum. Admission is free, and although it is not large, it is filled with valuable exhibits. The highlight was a miniature model depicting the modern Iri Station and the city’s past. Each little building evoked a sense of Iksan's history.
The exhibition hall featured panels showcasing the modern history of Iri and Iksan, and I was particularly impressed by the preserved original window frames and doors on display. It’s a great spot to stop by while visiting the Chicken Festival.
Inside, there was also an illustrated map showcasing key locations and restaurants in Iksan's old town. If you want to explore more after the festival, this map would be a helpful guide.
Hot weather makes chicken and beer the perfect combination!
The highlight of the festival was undoubtedly the food. From well-known chicken brands like BBQ and BHC to local specialties like spicy chicken and flower chicken, there was a variety of options to choose from. I opted for some crispy chicken and a cold draft beer, which paired perfectly with the sweet sauce of the freshly fried chicken.
The Harim booth offered draft beer served directly from the tap, and I noticed the Terra beer packed in an ice-filled bucket. Although it was crowded, you could also enjoy chicken and beer at nearby restaurants for a more relaxed experience.
Experience and performances at the Iksan Chicken Festival
In addition to the food, the festival boasted an array of performances. From orchestras and bands to dance shows and EDM parties, various acts took place throughout the afternoon and into the night.
I briefly watched a performance and saw the joy on the faces of the audience seated in front of the stage.
In front of the Iksan Art Center, a retro RPG experience called 'Iri Central Dong Secret Record Exploration Team' was offered. Participants engaged in activities such as making dalgona candy and completing missions to collect stamps, which was particularly popular among families with children.
If you missed the May festival, don't worry! It will take place again in June!
If you missed the event in May, you can catch it again in June at the same location. The festival will feature a chicken food zone, retro experiences, and cultural performances similar to May's lineup, so make sure to visit the Chicken Festival in June!
