The Yeongnam Alps span across Ulsan and neighboring cities, forming a dramatic mountain range with peaks rising over 1,000 meters. Their vast ridgelines and open views have earned them comparisons to the European Alps.

In 2025, hikers can challenge themselves with the Yeongnam Alps seven peaks certification, a revised program focused on safe and accessible summits while preserving the region’s natural beauty.

This guide explains the seven peaks certification process, how to use the official app, and how to receive the limited commemorative coin.

Overview of the Yeongnam Alps

The Yeongnam Alps stretch across Ulsan, Miryang, Cheongdo, Gyeongju, and Yangsan, forming one of Korea’s most impressive mountain regions. With wide ridges and layered peaks, the scenery feels expansive and powerful in every season.

Originally known for nine major peaks, the range has long attracted hikers who enjoy varied terrain and constantly changing mountain silhouettes. Each visit offers a different perspective depending on weather and season.

From Nine Peaks to Seven Peaks Certification

The original nine peaks included Gajisan, Unmunsan, Cheonhwangsan, Jaeyaksan, Ganwolsan, Sinbulsan, Yeongchuksan, Goheonsan, and Munboksan. Due to fire control restrictions on Munboksan and safety concerns on Jaeyaksan, the certification program was revised.

The current seven peaks certification focuses on Gajisan, Ganwolsan, Sinbulsan, Yeongchuksan, Cheonhwangsan, Goheonsan, and Unmunsan. This change allows hikers to participate more safely while still experiencing the core of the Yeongnam Alps.

How the Seven Peaks Certification Works

The Yeongnam Alps summit certification is managed through a dedicated mobile app. Certification is available each year from January through November, giving hikers plenty of time to complete the challenge.

To certify a peak, hikers must reach the summit and register a personal identification photo within 100 meters of the summit location using the official app. All seven peaks must be completed to receive final certification.

Certification Center and Coin Collection

Once all seven peaks are certified, hikers can visit the Yeongnam Alps summit certification center located at the Yeongnam Alps Complex Welcome Center. A smartphone with the app installed and a valid ID are required for verification.

After identity confirmation by staff, hikers can choose to receive their commemorative coin either directly through the app process or via delivery. The first 30,000 certified participants are eligible to receive the coin during the designated period.

The 2025 Commemorative Coin Experience

Completing the seven peaks certification brings a deep sense of accomplishment. The 2025 commemorative coin features Cheonhwangsan, known for its spring azaleas and its role as a natural boundary between Miryang and Ulsan.

Starting in 2024, hikers who complete certification after the initial 30,000 participants can purchase commemorative coins through the Korea Mint Corporation’s online store each December.

Looking Ahead to the Next Challenge

After multiple attempts, completing the Yeongnam Alps seven peaks in 2025 made every climb feel worthwhile. The commemorative coin now holds memories of each ridge, summit, and challenging ascent.
