Hello! I'm Kim Jong-hee, a blogger from Ulsan.

Today, I want to share my experience at Ho-gye Market, one of Ulsan's renowned traditional markets, filled with the delightful aroma of food and the warmth of its people.

This unique market only opens on the 1st and 6th of each month, offering a rare sight in the city!

The Ho-gye Market operates on the 1st, 6th, 11th, 16th, 21st, and 26th of each month, with no market on the 31st.

I visited on the first day of February, which happened to be a Sunday. Despite the cold weather, the market was bustling with warmth and energy.

Vendors had set up their stalls along the main street, and even in small spaces like next to bus stops, they displayed their goods.

Located in Ho-gye-dong, the heart of Ulsan's Buk-gu district, the market is easily accessible if you remember the old Ho-gye Station.

On market days, the once-quiet alleys are filled with colorful umbrellas and the lively sounds of vendors. It was fascinating to see such a vibrant atmosphere in the city.

Basic information about Ho-gye Market:

Address: Ho-gye Public Market and nearby roads, Ulsan Buk-gu, Ho-gye-dong 869-1.

Opening hours: Usually starts bustling around 8-9 AM and gradually winds down by 6 PM. The permanent market area operates daily.

Freshly prepared seaweed, dried fish, and other ingredients are available for immediate purchase.

The colorful socks hanging from stalls caught my attention. They are not only pretty but also practical, with thick fabric for warmth. Short ones are 3,000 won, and long ones are 4,000 won.

As the holidays approach, many people buy fruits. Apples are still expensive at 20,000 won for a small basket, but Shine Muscat grapes were plentiful.

Entering the market, you'll find an endless array of seasonal fruits, fresh vegetables, seafood, side dishes, and miscellaneous goods.

Ho-gye Market has been famous for its beans, with many vendors selling home-grown bean sprouts and handmade tofu.

There are also modern, well-maintained arcade sections and permanent market buildings, but the latter don't operate on market days.

The traditional street vendor area is filled with stalls, making it fun to explore.

Warm, steaming tofu looked delicious, and a bag of rice cakes made from new rice costs 5,000 won.

Grandmothers displayed vegetables neatly while preparing freshly picked greens right next to their stalls, creating a charming country market atmosphere.

Inside the arcade, many customers gathered around a stall selling fried snacks and tteokbokki. Market snacks are irresistible!

Parking information for Ho-gye Market: The public parking lot is closest to the market but can get very crowded on market days. The first 30 minutes cost 500 won, and after that, it's 200 won for every additional 10 minutes.

The old Ho-gye Station public parking lot is a five-minute walk across the street, spacious, and operates 24/7 for free, which I recommend!

Ho-gye Market is like a treasure trove, with everything you might need available here!

There are also various delicious side dishes like jeotgal (salted seafood), kimchi, and seasoned vegetables that you can taste before buying, making it a paradise for those who don't cook.

When visiting the market, the most exciting part is the snacks! Instant hot bars and fish cakes range from 1,000 to 2,000 won, and with the holidays approaching, there were plenty of traditional sweets available.

Here, you can find fish cakes, sundae (blood sausage), tteokbokki, and sweet rice donuts. You can enjoy standing while eating, but there are also tables to sit comfortably.

Freshly made hotteok is sold for 500 won, and it's delightful to get two for 1,000 won in these inflationary times. The vendors cooked them quickly, so I didn’t have to wait long.

Ho-gye Market in Ulsan's Buk-gu is large, offering plenty to see and taste, making me forget the cold as I wandered around the market.

Visit this charming urban market, open on the 1st and 6th of every month!
