Exploring the Uijeongbu English Library: A Unique Experience for Families

As the warm sunlight gently descends in May,
where can you go to spend meaningful time with your child?
If you're looking for a place that goes beyond just reading books,
where you can learn, experience, and enjoy together,
it will surely make for a special day.
In Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province,
there is a unique space where children can naturally encounter
English and cultivate their dreams.
It is the 'Uijeongbu English Library.'
The Uijeongbu English Library, located in Hoewon-dong, Uijeongbu,
started as the Uijeongbu Children's Library in 2007
and reopened in July 2022 as a specialized English library.
Through extensive remodeling, it has transformed into a
multicultural space that breaks down barriers,
allowing all generations to use it together.
Currently, it is loved by many citizens as a 'library where you want to stay,'
based on English original books and various experience programs.
The Uijeongbu English Library serves as a
'public platform specializing in English.'
Designed with flexible furniture and an open structure,
the space can be freely utilized according to the user's purpose,
providing a comfortable environment for everyone from children to adults.
Especially, the natural integration of Korean books and English originals
helps children accept English not as a 'subject to learn' but as a 'language of life.'
The library features different atmospheres and functions on each floor.
✔️ The 1st floor, PLAZA, is an open space where families can choose
and read books together, allowing first-time visitors to feel at ease.
✔️ The 2nd floor, FOREST, is centered around picture books and
children's and youth literature, creating a cozy atmosphere
that evokes a forest, helping children immerse themselves in reading.
✔️ The 3rd floor, COSMOS, is the core space focused on English originals,
offering a wide range of materials from board books to adult literature,
allowing for reading at various levels.
Additionally, it connects to a rooftop garden,
providing a refreshing break with fresh air while reading.
As of 2026, the library holds over 40,000 Korean books and
more than 16,000 English originals,
with materials in literature, social sciences, natural sciences, and more,
helping to broaden children's interests and allowing them
to enjoy the pleasure of choosing books themselves.
The 'Bukkubukku' service lends 10 English picture books
in one bag, organized by themes and levels,
reducing the burden on parents and expanding children's reading experiences.
In the 'The Classic' area on the 3rd floor,
there is a calligraphy experience where participants can write along
with English originals. In May and June, a program themed
'Write to Grow: Four Heroines, One Journey' will be held,
allowing participants to write sentences while following
the stories of characters from classics.
After your time at the library, take a stroll to the nearby
Jikdong Neighborhood Park, which features beautiful paths
surrounded by lush trees and various sculptures,
making it a great place to walk with children.
The park offers different scenery in each season,
making it a delightful spot to visit year-round.
Currently, colorful tulips are in full bloom,
creating a stunning landscape. The distance from the library
to the wildflower garden is about 3km, so planning a vehicle
is recommended for convenience.
Fill your mind with knowledge and enjoy a healing day
walking along the flower path,
and have a special time exploring the Uijeongbu English Library
and Jikdong Neighborhood Park together.
