A new library has opened in the Sam Bong district of Wanju. The Goun Sam Bong Library, which opened on July 7, was a delightful place to visit. It is conveniently located near Sam Rye Elementary School and Sam Bong Central Park, making it a great stop for families visiting the park.
While there is a parking lot in front of the building, it is not very large. The library consists of one basement level and three above-ground floors, housing approximately 15,000 books.
In addition to the library, there is a civil service center and a shared parenting space, making it a place where residents can frequently visit beyond just reading books. 'Goun Sam Bong' embodies the beauty of Wanju and the identity of the Sam Bong district, reflecting hopes for a more beautiful life for the community.
Particularly, Goun Sam Bong Library is designed with the theme of 'the city's living room,' offering various seating areas for reading or relaxing, creating a welcoming atmosphere for everyone. Additionally, safety handrails are installed on both sides of the stairs, ensuring safe movement for children and seniors.
The first floor is dedicated to books and community services. Upon entering, the clean and bright interior immediately catches the eye.
The walls are adorned with quotes and illustrations that convey warm messages about books and life, prompting visitors to pause and reflect as they walk through the space.
The first floor features the Sam Bong Civil Service Center, a study room, and a community lounge.
At the entrance, there are self-service document issuance and book return machines for convenient access. There was also an exhibition of this year's books from Wanju County and a participatory exhibition called 'Goun Connection Bookshelf,' which was enjoyable to explore.
The community lounge is designed for residents to relax and chat freely, embodying the essence of 'the city's living room.'
The second floor is dedicated to children and parents, featuring a children's reading room and a shared parenting space.
The children's reading room is filled with books and shelves designed at children's eye level, encouraging them to engage with books naturally.
The shared parenting space, which I personally found most appealing, was well-equipped with various toys and play facilities, providing a bright and spacious environment for children.
Finding suitable places to visit with children can be challenging, but the shared parenting space seems like a perfect spot for kids to play and parents to relax.
The third floor offers a space for books, music, and relaxation, featuring a general reading room, a youth reading room, and club rooms.
Upon exiting the elevator, the youth reading room immediately caught my attention, and I noticed teenagers reading books on the opening day.
Inside the reading room, there are areas for watching movies and enjoying board games, making it a space for various activities beyond just studying.
Additionally, there is a space for poetry related to Wanju, Sam Bong, and Goun Library, where I had a delightful time creating my own poetry.
One standout feature on the third floor is the 'Time Between Books and Music' contemplation room.
This space allows individuals to listen to music while reading or organizing their thoughts, available for two hours on weekdays and one hour on Saturdays. It seems like a perfect retreat for those seeking a quiet place to unwind with music.
Goun Sam Bong Library, the city's living room, is more than just a place to read books; it serves as a cultural space where residents can gather, relax, and engage with one another.
I hope it becomes a beloved library for the residents of the Sam Bong district, welcoming everyone from children to adults.
