The village of Seongnae, located in Impi-myeon, Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do, is a small and delightful place where rich history and culture come together. It offers a peaceful atmosphere perfect for leisurely walks and cultural exploration.

As you enter the village, the first thing that catches your eye is the information sign. It welcomes visitors with directions to Impi Cathedral and Gunsan Nohseongdang, creating a friendly ambiance.

Next to Nohseongdang, the Yeonji Rest Area was once part of the old Impi County Office. It is said that local officials would stroll around the pond, contemplating governance for the people.

The area is surrounded by towering willow trees, providing a refreshing shade that has served as a resting spot since ancient times. One of these willows is designated as a protected tree, estimated to be between 250 to 500 years old.

Nohseongdang was built in 1855 during the reign of King Cheoljong and served administrative functions in the Impi region. It is believed to have housed documents like the list of former officials and the county magistrate's guestbook.

Historically, it also played a role in regulating boats crossing the river at Shincheongjin on market days. It was a gathering place for scholars to recite poetry and enjoy cultural activities, making it a central hub for local culture and administration.

Today, Nohseongdang functions as a community center for local seniors, seamlessly blending tradition with modern life.

Between Impi Hyanggyo and Gunsan Nohseongdang, you will find the Impi Chae Man-sik Library, a public library opened on March 2, 1997, named after local novelist Chae Man-sik. The library honors his literary contributions and serves as a cultural space through diverse collections and reading programs.

Under the early spring sun, the fresh green landscape of weeping willows at the library entrance feels like a gentle reminder of the arrival of spring, soothing the hearts of onlookers.

Impi Hyanggyo, established in 1403 during the reign of King Taejong, has been a traditional educational institution at the heart of local Confucian education. It honors Confucius and other Confucian scholars and continues to serve as a cultural and educational space.

Capture special memories at the photo zone set up at Impi Hyanggyo, where you can share photos on social media and enjoy a stamp tour, adding to the excitement of your trip. May you have meaningful moments in this space where history and emotion intertwine.

At the center of the hyanggyo are the Daejeong and Myeongryundang, along with the East and West Dormitories, and the outer and inner gates. Here, traditional ceremonies like Seokjeong Daeje are held in spring and autumn, preserving their cultural significance.

The East and West Dormitories are located on either side behind Myeongryundang, serving as residences for students who lived and studied there.

The Daejeong of Impi Hyanggyo is a shrine dedicated to Confucius, housing his tablet along with those of other Chinese sages and Korean Confucian scholars. Every spring and autumn, the Seokjeong Daeje ceremony is held to honor Confucius.

The ginkgo tree encountered in front of the hyanggyo stands as a testament to time, offering a deep impression. Traditionally planted around hyanggyos, temples, and government offices, ginkgo trees symbolize a living cultural heritage that connects nature and tradition.

Seongnae Village, with its historical and cultural sites like Impi Hyanggyo, Nohseongdang, and Impi Chae Man-sik Library, allows visitors to feel the passage of time simply by walking. In this serene landscape, tradition and modernity blend naturally, making it a charming destination for peaceful strolls and meaningful experiences.
