The Nakdonggang Breeze Trail in Hamann is a scenic trekking course that follows the calm flow of the Nakdong River, offering beautiful views and a refreshing sense of openness even in winter.
Starting near Neunggasa Temple, this trail combines river scenery, cliffside deck paths, and suspension bridges, making it an engaging route for both light trekking and moderate hiking.
This guide walks through the two recommended courses, key viewpoints, and highlights that make the Nakdonggang Breeze Trail a healing destination for nature lovers.
Overview of Nakdonggang Breeze Trail
The Nakdonggang Breeze Trail is located in Chilsseo-myeon, Hamann-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, starting near Neunggasa Temple and stretching along the cliffs of the Nakdong River.
The trail is approximately 1.9 kilometers long, leading to the viewpoint near the suspension bridges, with further extensions currently under construction.
Two Recommended Trekking Courses
The first option is the full course starting from Neunggasa Temple and continuing to the endpoint viewpoint, offering the most complete experience of the trail.
The second option is a shorter and easier route starting from the water intake facility near Dohung Reservoir, ideal for casual walkers and families.
Starting From Neunggasa Temple
Neunggasa Temple, built along the cliffs overlooking the Nakdong River, serves as a symbolic and scenic starting point for the trail.
After passing Namji Bridge, the trekking entrance appears, leading into deck paths and stair sections that gradually increase in difficulty.
The early climb can feel challenging, but the reward is a wide, calm view of the Nakdong River stretching peacefully below.
Trail Difficulty and Mountain Sections
Beyond the first viewpoint, the course becomes more rugged and feels closer to hiking than simple trekking.
Sturdy footwear is recommended, especially on sections where the trail climbs toward Yonghwasan and intersects with mountain paths.
Dohung Reservoir Route for a Gentle Walk
The second course begins near Dohung Reservoir, a small and tranquil body of water that serves as a resting place for migratory birds.
Parking is available at the multipurpose square next to the reservoir, from where a clean paved road leads gently toward the main deck path.
Along this route, the village landscape appears on one side, while the Nakdong River opens wide on the other, creating a balanced rural atmosphere.
Deck Paths and River Views
The highlight of the Nakdonggang Breeze Trail begins where the wooden deck paths appear along the river cliffs.
Because of steep slopes beside the railings, access is restricted between 17:00 and 06:00 for safety.
Even on cloudy days, the calm surface of the river reflects surrounding trees, including metasequoias and willows, creating a serene winter scene.
Watermelon Suspension Bridges
The most memorable feature of the trail is its two suspension bridges, designed in the shape of watermelons, a specialty of Hamann.
The first bridge spans 45 meters, while the second extends to 64 meters, offering a gentle sway and unique visual design inspired by watermelon seeds.
Despite their suspension design, the bridges feel stable and safe, allowing even cautious visitors to cross comfortably.
Past the second bridge, the trail currently ends due to ongoing construction, requiring visitors to turn back.
A Quiet Path for Healing and Reflection
The round trip from Dohung Reservoir to the suspension bridges takes about 50 minutes, making it a manageable and rewarding walk.
With no major roads or large villages nearby, the trail is filled only with natural sounds, living up to its name as a true breeze path.
As the New Year approaches, combining a visit to nearby sunrise spots like Hapgangjeong with a walk along the Nakdonggang Breeze Trail offers a meaningful way to reconnect with nature.
