Whenever I pass by a train station or a train during my travels, warm memories always fill my heart. I decided to stop by Hamann Station while reminiscing about the beautiful views from Mujinjeong.
Located in Gyesan-ri, Hamann-myeon, Hamann Station is a railway station on the Gyeongjeon Line. It was built by the private investment corporation Gaya Railroad as part of the double-track electrification project between Hamann and Jinju.
One of the unique features of Hamann Station is its tall tower, which is not commonly found in other stations. To me, the tower seems to serve as a beacon, signaling the gateway to Hamann.
Unlike my previous visit with a friend, I found ample outdoor parking available on both sides of the station, making it very convenient to park.
Operating hours are from 06:01 to 00:40. Upon entering, I noticed signs indicating that the entrance would be closed for maintenance, along with emergency contact information.
Inside the station, there are facilities for travelers, including a middle note cafe, waiting room, and a nursing room. The nursing room is designated for mothers and babies, prohibiting food intake aside from breastfeeding, and is open from 06:00 AM to 03:00 AM.
The Gyeongjeon Line is a vital route that connects the southern coast, extending from Samrangjin in Miryang, Gyeongsangnam-do, to Gwangju Songjeong in Jeollanam-do.
Hamann Station started operations as a regular station on December 1, 1923, in Malsan-ri, Gaya-eup. The station was rebuilt on February 28, 1965, but was relocated to Gyesan-ri, Hamann-myeon on October 23, 2012, due to the double-track electrification project.
Photographs of the Nine Scenic Views of Hamann adorn the station walls, providing guidance for travelers. It's advisable to plan a travel route based on these scenic spots.
The memories of Hamann Station from my childhood are filled with images of merchants and mothers carrying babies, fathers in hats and traditional pants, and the bustle of people buying tickets as grandmothers held their grandchildren's hands. Now, that child stands in the station, looking at the present.
Hamann Station operates with two platforms and four tracks, covering an area of 20,435 square meters and a building area of 389.26 square meters. The station is a single-story building where Mugunghwa, KTX, and Saemaul trains operated until KTX services were discontinued in April 2015.
As of the timetable for December 31, 2025, the first train heading upward departs at 07:12 (Mugunghwa), and the last train at 21:51 (Mugunghwa). For the downward route, the first train departs at 08:06 (Mugunghwa), and the last at 00:26 (ITX Saemaul).
During my visit, the railway line felt desolate without the vibrations of trains, but soon, a train will arrive, marking the time in Hamann. Although the relocation has led to fewer passengers, nearby attractions like Mujinjeong, famous for its flower play, and Hamann Gukbap Village offer great spots for travelers.
If you are planning a trip to Hamann or longing for the nostalgic scent of memories, consider taking a train and letting the gentle rhythm carry you. Enjoy an analog journey with a loved one, as love and the scenery outside the window heal the soul.
