Explore the History of Jeongeup at Jeongeup Municipal Museum

The Jeongeup Municipal Museum, which opened on June 22, 2012, and became a first-class specialized museum on January 3, 2013, is a key space for preserving and researching Jeongeup's valuable cultural heritage.
The museum provides informative exhibitions that contain various stories and historical flows of the region. It systematically manages artifacts and records from different eras and offers diverse experience programs, making it a great place to visit with children.
Recognized as the best institution in Jeollabuk-do by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2020, the museum hosts various special exhibitions annually, providing citizens with opportunities to enjoy culture.
The exhibition facilities are divided into indoor and outdoor areas. The indoor section includes three permanent exhibition halls, one special exhibition hall, a storage room, a cultural experience room, and a lounge. The outdoor area features walking paths, a protective pavilion for kiln sites from the Three Kingdoms period, dolmens from the Bronze Age, and burial sites from the Three Kingdoms period.

To ensure a pleasant viewing environment, food and pets are not allowed inside. The museum provides facilities such as lockers, free stroller and wheelchair rentals, and nursing rooms, making it comfortable for families visiting with children or for those with mobility issues.
The indoor exhibitions consist of three permanent exhibition halls and a special exhibition hall, each featuring unique displays. The first floor includes the first permanent exhibition hall, a VR experience room, a storage room, the second permanent exhibition hall, and a museum shop. The second floor houses the third permanent exhibition hall, the special exhibition hall, the cultural experience room, and an archive wall. It is recommended to start your visit from the first floor.
Upon entering the museum, visitors are greeted by a space where children can learn the basic movements of traditional mask dance and experience archery through digital technology, exploring the intangible heritage of Korea and Jeongeup.
There are also experience zones for mask photo ops, acrylic coloring, and mask coloring, helping children understand intangible heritage in various ways.
The first permanent exhibition hall showcases the beautiful sounds and culture of Jeongeupsa, the only existing Baekje song. Unfortunately, it was closed on the day of my visit for preparations for the next exhibition, but a renewed display will be available starting in April, which is highly anticipated.
The second permanent exhibition hall offers a space to appreciate works by calligraphers and painters from the Joseon Dynasty to the Japanese occupation, allowing visitors to connect with the artistic emotions of renowned artists.
The third permanent exhibition hall presents artifacts from prehistoric times to modern history, providing a comprehensive view of Jeongeup's history and culture.
Don't miss the special exhibition titled 'Silent Teachings, Dharma' featuring local artist Lee Myung-woo from November 23 to December 7 at the second-floor special exhibition hall.
Jeongeup Municipal Museum also hosts various cultural events such as traditional music performances, plays, and workshops, ensuring that children have a fun and engaging experience. Regular updates on exhibitions and events are available on the museum's website and social media.
After finishing your indoor visit, step outside to meet the historical figures who safeguarded the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty during the Imjin War. The museum grounds also feature archaeological sites from the Three Kingdoms period, providing children with hands-on learning experiences.
Jeongeup Municipal Museum is an excellent place for families to learn and enjoy the history and culture of Jeongeup together. Create special memories with your children at the museum this weekend!
