Enjoying the Winter Night View of Cheongdo

Experience the enchanting winter nights of Cheongdo.
Cheongdo Eupseong (town fortress) is a historical site that once protected the residents of the region and served military and administrative functions.
While the exact date of its construction is unclear, it is believed that the fortress was started in the 23rd year of King Seonjo's reign (1590) and completed in the 25th year (1592).
Today, visitors can explore from the East Gate to the West Gate of Cheongdo Eupseong. Additionally, you can visit the Seokbinggo (stone ice storage) and Cheongdo Hyanggyo (Confucian school) around the East Gate area.
Here, at the East Gate, stands the Goma Cheong, a government office responsible for hiring private horses for military service.
Beyond this, there are pathways along the fortress walls, offering a leisurely walk from the East Gate to the West Gate.
Outside the fortress walls, there are also walking trails, with three ponds featuring a functioning fountain, providing a picturesque setting.
Visiting during sunset enhances the winter ambiance, allowing you to fully appreciate the beauty of the season.
The North Gate of Cheongdo Eupseong features a structure with three sections in the front and two on the sides. Evidence of a door and a semi-circular protrusion in the wall suggests it was designed to protect the gate.
Similar structures can be seen at the West Gate, indicating that the other two gates were likely built in a similar manner.
As you walk slowly along the wall towards the West Gate, you will find stairs leading down. It is recommended to pause at the bottom of the stairs to capture the sunset in a photograph.
There is also a pond known as Seongnaeji, which was artificially created to store water flowing down from Namsan Mountain. This pond was used for various purposes, including fire prevention during wartime and irrigation.
The fortress walls stretch elegantly, with a walking path allowing visitors to circle around. Next to it is the West Gate, marking the end of the fortress.
As night falls, lights illuminate the fortress walls and the pond, creating a beautiful night view. On this particular day, a full moon added to the enchanting atmosphere.
Winter nights at Cheongdo Eupseong offer a unique experience, with stunning views at sunset and the chance to see large balloons resembling a full moon and rabbits.
Visiting Cheongdo Eupseong is recommended during the twilight hours to enjoy the vibrant colors of the sky and the night scenery.
