Do you like pork?

Today, I want to introduce you to the Jireh Black Pig from Gimcheon, renowned for its chewy texture and excellent flavor, which was a tribute to the kings during the Joseon Dynasty!

In Jireh-myeon, Gimcheon-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, black pigs have been raised since ancient times.

The Jireh Black Pig, known for its low fat and chewy texture, was so highly regarded that it was even sent as a tribute to the kings of the Joseon Dynasty.

Even today, Jireh Black Pig is recognized as a specialty of Gimcheon, with a village dedicated to its legacy.

During my visit to the Jireh Black Pig village for K-Food coverage in Gyeongsangbuk-do, I entered a restaurant that was certified as a local cuisine hotspot.

On one wall of the restaurant, there was information about Jireh Black Pig and a nutritional chart showcasing its rich protein, vitamins, folate, and calcium content.

The restaurant offered a variety of Jireh Black Pig dishes, and I was pleasantly surprised by the reasonable prices.

We ordered two servings of spicy gochujang grilled pork and two servings of fresh pork belly.

Before long, they set the table with wrapping vegetables, pickled onions, and side dishes.

The gochujang grilled pork took some time to prepare since it was pre-cooked, but it was worth the wait. It was slightly spicy and filled with smoky flavor, making it absolutely delicious.

The wrapping vegetables looked fresh and vibrant.

This is the fresh pork belly. The color of the meat already looked appetizing.

It came with mushrooms and coarse salt! You simply place the fresh pork belly on the grill and sprinkle the coarse salt evenly. You can add as much salt as you like, which was great.

The grilled Jireh Black Pig belly looked perfectly cooked!

The thick, chewy, and lean meat was incredibly tasty.

It definitely had a distinct flavor compared to regular pork. If you prefer a chewy texture, I highly recommend Jireh Black Pig.

No meal with pork is complete without wrapping it!

Wrapping it with various vegetables added more flavors and a delightful crunch.

We also ordered a stew on the side, which complemented the meat perfectly.

Today, I introduced you to the K-Food of Gyeongsangbuk-do, the Jireh Black Pig. If you visit Gimcheon, I highly recommend stopping by the Jireh Black Pig village to try this chewy and lean delicacy!
