Buinsa Temple was a very prosperous temple during the Goryeo Dynasty, so much so that the only Buddhist marketplace in Korea was established here.
Buinsa is also known as the place where the Goryeo First Edition of the Tripitaka Koreana was carved.
The carving began around the 4th year of King Hyeonjong's reign (1013) and was completed in the 4th year of King Sukjong's reign (1099). The First Tripitaka Koreana, consisting of approximately 10,000 volumes, was enshrined at Buinsa Temple after passing through several locations.
Wait a minute!
What is the First Tripitaka Koreana?
It refers to the Tripitaka Koreana that was first carved in Goryeo before the creation of the Haeinsa Palman Daejanggyeong, or the Second Tripitaka Koreana.
The Tripitaka refers to the collection of all Buddhist scriptures, including the Sutra Pitaka, Vinaya Pitaka, and Abhidhamma Pitaka.
In an excavation survey conducted last year,
roof tiles inscribed with 'Buinsa (符δ»ε―Ί)' from the Goryeo Dynasty were discovered,
providing concrete evidence supporting the fact that the Buinsa Temple site was the enshrining place of the Goryeo First Tripitaka Koreana.
Accordingly, discussions are underway regarding the elevation of Buinsa's status as a historical site.
Buinsa, an ancient temple with a history of over a thousand years, has shared its history and life with the people of Daegu for a very long time!
How about taking a leisurely stroll this weekend? π
