Celebrating 20 Years of Gyeonggi Museum of Art

The Gyeonggi Museum of Art, which has enriched the cultural lives of residents, is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
In honor of this milestone, the special exhibition titled "Flowing and Stacking" offers a chance to reflect on the past 20 years through 125 collected artworks.
The museum, established in 2006 by Gyeonggi Province, is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and researching modern artworks that will become future assets for the province.
Through art, the museum connects life and culture, bridging local and global perspectives to help us understand and empathize with modern society.
As visitors enter the exhibition space, their attention is immediately drawn to a wall covered in tiles, creating a captivating visual experience.
This large mural, measuring 72 meters wide and 11 meters high, features small drawings and objects created by 50,000 children from across the nation, from Marado in the south to Daeseongdong in the north.
The children depicted their dreams, illustrating what they aspire to be and what they wish to eat.
The exhibition includes five different themes across four spaces, allowing even those without art knowledge to enjoy and appreciate the beauty of art.
One standout piece is "Augusta," a human figure made of Styrofoam, which transforms a simple sculpture into a unique photographic sculpture.
Another intriguing work, titled "Very Luxurious and Pathetic Insomnia," appears to be an elegant chandelier from a distance but is actually constructed from discarded alcohol bottle fragments.
This juxtaposition of luxury and poverty reveals the layers within our society.
The final exhibition space, titled "I practice ( )?", explores social practices through the lens of artists' attitudes.
Visitors can engage with the artworks that reflect on the relationship between art and society.
The Gyeonggi Museum of Art is located right in front of the Hwarang Lake, offering a perfect opportunity to reflect on its 20-year journey while enjoying a walk by the lake.
This experience will remind us that the time of art is truly the time for all of us.
