Autumn Splendor: Discovering Ulsan's Hidden Gem - Mugeocheon Cherry Blossom Path

The Korean Peninsula experienced relatively warm temperatures until mid-November, but as late November approached, temperatures plummeted to winter levels, with the first snowfall of autumn recorded along the West Coast.
This indicates a significant fluctuation in temperatures on the Korean Peninsula. October of this year also broke records for average temperature, rainfall, and number of rainy days since observations began.
Following last year, no typhoons directly hit the Korean Peninsula this year either. High rainfall and temperatures were recorded until October, and perhaps because of the subsequent temperature drop, the autumn foliage in downtown Ulsan is late but exceptionally beautiful this year.

The cherry tree foliage in the city center is particularly outstanding. The Muggeocheon Gunggeorang Cherry Blossom Path in Nam-gu, perfect for enjoying the autumn leaves while walking, is especially beloved this year.
The Mugeocheon Cherry Blossom Path, which stretches from Mugeo-dong to Samho-dong in Nam-gu and continues to the Taehwagang Migratory Bird Park, is a renowned urban cherry blossom spot representing Ulsan. While it is remembered by visitors as a beautiful place for cherry blossoms in spring, it is also cherished by local residents as a place where even the autumn foliage is beautiful.
However, the quality of the cherry tree foliage is significantly affected by typhoons that make landfall on the Korean Peninsula between summer and autumn. Ulsan, a major typhoon path, often sees its cherry tree leaves fall after a typhoon passes, making it difficult to expect beautiful foliage that year.
In years like last year and this year, without typhoons, the cherry tree foliage is truly beautiful. This year, abundant rainfall in October prevented the leaves from falling early, allowing them to remain on the trees until the foliage season, resulting in a particularly stunning display.
Autumn 2024 vs. Autumn 2025
Last year, without typhoons, the autumn cherry tree foliage was also excellent. However, some sections experienced early leaf fall, which was somewhat disappointing.
This year, however, the cherry tree foliage in all sections of Mugeocheon is beautiful. Thanks to this scenery, local residents often comment on how exceptionally beautiful the foliage is this year.
As a resident of Mugeo-dong, I also find the scenery so outstanding this year that I walk along Mugeocheon every morning and evening, enjoying the foliage whenever I have time.
If you have enjoyed the cherry blossoms in spring at Mugeocheon, comparing the foliage with the brilliantly shining cherry blossom scenery of the past is another way to enjoy the Mugeocheon foliage.

As mentioned earlier, Mugeocheon joins the Taehwa River, passing through Mugeo-dong and Samho-dong. The riverside scenery in Mugeo-dong and Samho-dong each has its own unique charm.
Thanks to this, the walk to Taehwagang Migratory Bird Park is not monotonous, and there is fun in discovering various scenes.
Previously, it was only possible to walk along the lower path by the river. As a result, during the peak cherry blossom season, it was often difficult to take a walk due to the massive crowds.
Since the 2020s, a walking deck has been installed above the riverbank, allowing access to multiple walking paths on both sides of the river, further enhancing the scenery.
Be sure to use various paths while walking along the river to fully enjoy the foliage.
The 2025 Mugeocheon foliage is exceptionally beautiful, but only local residents are enjoying this scenery. As I diligently enjoyed the Mugeocheon foliage this year, I was suddenly reminded of the Mugeocheon cherry blossom scenery in the late 2000s.
From the late 2000s, when the Mugeocheon cherry trees had grown to a certain extent, the Mugeocheon cherry blossoms finally began to shine brilliantly. Nevertheless, those enjoying the spring cherry blossoms were mostly local residents.
At that time, citizens would spend time and money to see cherry blossoms at places like Jakcheonjeong Cherry Blossoms in Eonyang, Bomun Lake Resort in Gyeongju, and Yeojwacheon Stream in Jinhae.
Just as Mugeocheon finally gained recognition as a cherry blossom attraction representing Ulsan from the late 2010s, 10 years later, I cautiously predict that if the foliage continues to display such beauty every year, it may soon gain recognition as a foliage attraction in downtown Ulsan.
Even on the afternoon of November 20th, as I write this, I lightly strolled along Mugeocheon and encountered the foliage. Unless a strong northerly wind comes down, it seems that you can still see good scenery until the end of November. Before the full-fledged cold of December arrives, it would be nice to lightly encounter the beautiful late autumn scenery in the city center.
