A New Cultural Hub in Ilgwang New Town
A new space where books and people meet has opened in Ilgwang, Gijang, Busan. Even on weekends, visitors of all ages can be seen quietly enjoying reading throughout the library.
One of Gijang’s strengths is its strong library infrastructure, and Ilgwang Library adds another meaningful cultural node to the area. It is steadily establishing itself as a place where reading and everyday relaxation coexist.
Library Structure and Floor Guide
Ilgwang Library consists of one basement level and three above-ground floors. Each level has a clearly defined role, making it easy to explore the space in a natural flow.
The basement and second floor function as comprehensive resource areas with books across various fields, while the first floor is dedicated to children. The third floor introduces a unique cultural and experiential space beyond traditional reading.
Children’s Resource Room and Book Café
The first floor houses a children’s resource room equipped with diverse reading corners where children can comfortably sit and read. A robot book rental machine adds an interactive element, making borrowing books more engaging for young visitors.
A book café is also located on this floor. While drinks are not allowed inside the resource rooms, visitors can enjoy tea and reading time in the café or outdoor relaxation areas.
Comprehensive Resource Floors
The basement level focuses on multimedia use and periodicals, offering a slightly more active reading environment. In contrast, the second floor is designed as a quiet zone, ideal for focused and uninterrupted reading.
Community steps and open seating areas are placed throughout the building, allowing visitors to pause and read even outside designated reading rooms.
Deulraknalak: Play-Based Learning Space
On the third floor, visitors will find ‘Deulraknalak,’ a play-based learning space that blends analog and digital content. This area is designed to help children learn naturally through experience and play.
Rather than focusing solely on books, this space encourages curiosity and creativity, making Ilgwang Library appealing even to children who are not yet avid readers.
