A First Step Onto the Mainland That Changed Everything

This post captures a short but memorable first flight to the mainland, filled with small surprises, unexpected weather, and a busy same-day schedule.
From snow-covered roads and a crowded embassy visit to a quick stop at COEX and a satisfying meal before heading home, the day unfolded faster than expected.
It’s a simple travel diary about moving, waiting, eating, and finally returning home with mixed feelings and a tired but relieved heart.
First Flight to the Mainland and Unexpected Scenery
This was my very first flight heading to the mainland.
The plane felt surprisingly big, and I wondered if it would be full, but as expected, the front row was empty.
Looking out, the road seemed slippery, and then I realized it wasn’t just rain.
I had never seen snow piled up like that before, and it instantly made the trip feel different.
A Busy Day at the Embassy After Five Years
It had been five years since my last visit to the embassy.
Today felt especially crowded, with so many people gathered from early on.
Thankfully, the citizenship services area seemed slightly less packed.
Even so, it was still a hectic day for a same-day visit.
Quick Stop at COEX with Mixed Expectations
After finishing up, I headed straight to COEX.
I had only ever seen this place in photos, especially in pictures of kids visiting.
But once I arrived, it didn’t quite match what I had imagined.
There honestly wasn’t much to see, which left me a bit underwhelmed.
Shopping, Eating, and Realizing Simplicity Is Best
After lunch, I had plenty of time left, so I tried shopping.
But again, nothing really stood out, and I quickly lost interest.
At that point, I decided it was best to just head back toward Gimpo.
Eating still felt like the highlight of the day.
Airport Waiting Time and Heading Home
There’s no Ashley in Jeju, so that alone felt like a small treat.
Only two hours after lunch, I already felt full.
I started wondering if I’m eating less these days, or if I was just bloated.
The airport felt unusually hot, and my flight was still an hour away.
Even so, knowing I was heading home made everything feel lighter.
Goodbye, mainland.
