A Day in Gyeongju: Exploring Culture and Cuisine

Successfully made a reservation for the special exhibition at the Gyeongju National Museum, starting day two!
I booked my ticket for the 16th session at 9:40.
Time for breakfast!
Today, I rented a car using SOCAR.
What are the famous foods in Gyeongju?
Sundubu (soft tofu) and sashimi rice wraps!
I promised myself to try both based on my friend's recommendation.
A cute cat playfully walked between my legs, making it hard to resist.
It seems many celebrities have visited here too!
I was curious about the barbecue salad, but they said they don’t serve it for breakfast.
So I ordered the stone pot sundubu stew and stone pot sundubu.
Even though I overate yesterday and wasn’t hungry at all, I almost finished the sundubu by myself!
I bought some yuzu makgeolli that looked delicious and headed to the Gyeongju Expo.
Originally, I was considering going to Gyeongju World, but I changed my plans to the Expo due to the cold weather.
In the end, it was an excellent choice.
Let’s spend three hours at the Expo!
Gyeongju Expo Memorial Hall
Cheonma Palace
Solgeo Art Museum
I will share more details about the Gyeongju Expo later.
Inside the Expo, the Silla Smile installation.
After giving up on the café at Gyeongju Tower, I found a beautiful hanok café with a view of Bomun Lake.
The café was decorated with traditional ornaments, perfectly fitting the hanok style.
The chestnut cake was a rich, decadent treat that hit the spot!
After relaxing on a bean bag, I quickly got up to visit Bulguksa before my reserved exhibition.
(I decided to skip Seokguram due to time constraints.)
The weather was freezing!
However, the clear sky made every photo look refreshing.
I had another reason for visiting Bulguksa: to buy some souvenirs.
The red horse representing the year of the horse is so cute!
I bought matching fish rings with J.
Unfortunately, the cold weather made my fingers swell, and although I bought the ring for my left pinky, it ended up fitting my right pinky too.
Leaving Bulguksa with a heavy heart, I headed to the Gyeongju National Museum for my reserved exhibition.
There were so many tourists!
Unlike the Expo, it was crowded, but I enjoyed admiring the stunning golden crowns.
I will share more details about the Silla Golden Crown Special Exhibition later.
As the sun began to set, I left the Gyeongju Museum.
I arrived at a restaurant famous for sashimi rice wraps.
I ordered sashimi rice wraps, grilled fish rice wraps, and a flatfish seaweed soup, which surprisingly tasted amazing.
(Maybe it was the cold weather?)
We wrapped the fish with seaweed and had a friendly competition on who could do it better.
Feeling full and ready to brave the cold, I put on a hot pack on my back and stepped outside.
Woljeonggyo Bridge was so beautiful that I briefly forgot about the cold!
I apologize to S for not listening when they said it was cold.
On the way back to the accommodation, I bought a few things.
I even took some low-angle selfies!
Back at the accommodation, we had a party.
Yuzu makgeolli was absolutely delicious.
And that wraps up day two of my Gyeongju trip!
