Our Dongnet Youth Reporter Training
The Songak Community Autonomous Council is conducting 'Our Dongnet Youth Reporter' training for first-year students at Songak Middle School as part of the 2025 Village Education Community School project. The Our Dongnet Reporters are activists who cover and document local news, events, and educational programs directly involving youth in the community.
These students will record content related to our village (travel, culture, history, personal stories) and youth activities, aiming to participate as youth reporters for Chungcheongnam-do.
The Chungcheongnam-do Youth Reporters are an official press corps consisting of youths aged 9 to 18 who directly cover and promote various news and cultures of Chungcheongnam-do.
The main roles and activities include reporting on local travel, festivals, youth culture, and school life, sharing articles, photos, and videos on the Chungcheongnam-do website and social media.
Journalism Education and Writing Practice
Under the guidance of professional instructors (Ahn Byung-kwon, Han Hyun-sook, Hong Jeong-im), students received basic writing education to prepare for their roles as provincial reporters. Through this training, they recognized the concept and role of Our Dongnet Reporters, enhancing their creativity, patriotism, and pride through the discovery of article topics.
They also learned the necessary skills for media production, including writing, photography, and video shooting, and explored how to write articles through examples.
Basic education was provided to help them write articles about local news and various stories experienced by youth in schools and communities.
Under the guidance of teacher Ahn Byung-kwon, students learned the basics of reporting, interview techniques, and effective writing methods.
After reviewing the types of interviews and important considerations, they had the opportunity to write articles based on activities conducted at school or home.
Writing articles proved to be more challenging than expected. After teachers explained points to consider while drafting, students chose writing topics and worked on their articles.
Teachers reviewed the drafts written by students, providing guidance on awkward phrasing and suggesting additions or deletions, followed by tailored writing instruction.
Local Culture Education Programs
Meanwhile, the Songak Community Autonomous Council's 'Our Dongnet Local Culture Innovation School' has been selected as an excellent case in the Dangjin Happy Education District. The council operates various projects aimed at strengthening key future competencies such as creativity, digital skills, and community participation awareness among youth.
The programs include Our Dongnet Reporters, Creative Convergence Classroom with 3D Printing Pens, Our Dongnet App Development & Cultural Village 3D Modeling, and Exploration of Our Dongnet's Historical and Cultural Resources, all conducted with elementary and middle school students and their parents.
Vision for Youth Growth
Yong-cheol Eom, head of the Cultural Education Division of the Songak Community Autonomous Council, stated, "We plan to continuously operate programs aimed at nurturing future talents based on local cultural heritage, tourist sites, and attractions, enabling the village's youth to thrive as Our Dongnet Reporters conveying local news. We support the remarkable journey and future of Our Dongnet youth reporters who will grow healthily with the village."
