Hello, everyone! I'm Bijuju ☺️

Today, I visited Yeonhae Donga in Bongridan-gil, Daebong-dong, Daegu.

Bongridan-gil is a neighborhood I visit almost every time I eat out. Since this place serves Jjukkumi Samgyeopsal (spicy stir-fried octopus with pork belly), I decided to have that today :)

✔️ A great place for Jjukkumi Samgyeopsal

✔️ Takeout/Group dining available

✔️ Options: Thick-cut pork belly (Ogyeopsal), Frozen pork belly (Naengsam), Jjukkumi Samgyeopsal

Yeonhae Donga is located where Wonjo Asamgyeop used to be. It's been renovated under a new name, which is Yeonhae Donga now. I live in the neighborhood, so I visit often, and it was nice to see it refreshed with a new name.

The restaurant has a unique, long structure, making it great for group gatherings and events.

Fantastic scene

Inside, there are tables that can be connected for larger groups. The menu is diverse, and they even offer Jjukkumi Samgyeopsal, which is a rare find in Daebong-dong and it is fully cooked when served. It's perfect for group gatherings or a family meal. (Turns out, my parents were already regulars!)

Special moment

Yeonhae Donga, a great place for gatherings in Daebong-dong, operates a self-service bar. This makes it easy to get more side dishes without feeling burdened. I especially appreciated being able to eat as many vegetables as I wanted without feeling self-conscious. Even mushrooms are refillable! Mayonnaise and corn cheese are available upon request.

The basic side dishes set on the table include pickled radish wraps, corn salad, and seasoned bean sprouts. You can refill any 부족한 dishes at the self-service bar.

Great photo

The menu includes thick-cut pork belly (Ogyeopsal), thin frozen pork belly (Naengsam), and Jjukkumi Samgyeopsal. My parents said the Jjukkumi Samgyeopsal is especially good, so we ordered the cooked version.

You can choose between a cooked or uncooked version of the Jjukkumi Samgyeopsal.

Our order:

Jjukkumi Samgyeopsal Stir-fry (2 servings): ₩28,000

+ Additional Octopus: ₩6,000

+ Additional Frozen Pork Belly (1 serving): ₩9,000

+ Seasoned Seaweed Rice: ₩1,500

+ Steamed Egg: ₩3,000

Unlike other restaurants, Yeonhae Donga allows you to freely add orders, which is great. They use different grills for Jjukkumi Samgyeopsal and regular meat, so you can switch grills if you want to order a different dish.

A delightful moment

Here's the 2-serving portion of Jjukkumi Samgyeopsal. The portion is generous, and since we ordered the cooked version, it came out with a beautiful presentation topped with perilla leaves.

You can eat it as soon as the cheese melts. The sauce is a bit spicy, but it's manageable even for those who aren't great with spice. It's addictively delicious with just the right amount of heat.

Peaceful landscape

The octopus and thin pork belly are well-seasoned, and when you wrap it with perilla leaves and other vegetables, it's delicious as a side dish with drinks or rice. The sauce is so good that it begs to be made into fried rice!

Impressive sight

You can't have a red sauce dish without bean sprouts, so I added bean sprouts and mushrooms from the self-service bar. It's quite a lot of food for a 2-person serving, right?

Two people definitely can't finish a 2-serving order! This is the most food I've seen since the 곱창전골 (Gopchang Jeongol - beef intestine hot pot).

Touching scene

The well-cooked Jjukkumi Samgyeopsal is especially delicious when wrapped in vegetables or eaten with corn salad. There's a good amount of meat, and the oil from the meat adds even more flavor to the spicy sauce.

There are so many meat restaurants in the area that I was getting tired of meat. But since this place is so good at Jjukkumi Samgyeopsal, I'll definitely visit often with my partner!

The owner and staff at Yeonhae Donga are also very kind. They immediately offer to refill things like corn salad if they see you're running low.

As I was eating, I thought it would be nice to add more meat and octopus, so I ordered additional frozen pork belly and octopus!

They didn't used to offer additional octopus, but they started offering it with the recent renovation. Adding octopus for ₩6,000 is a great option when you don't want to order a whole new dish. You can also add frozen pork belly, which can be grilled separately, to the Jjukkumi Samgyeopsal. They recommended frozen pork belly over thick-cut pork belly for adding to the Jjukkumi Samgyeopsal.

Touching scene

Many meat restaurants and other eateries have restrictions on additional orders, but I liked that Yeonhae Donga lets you add food in 1-serving increments without feeling pressured.

The spicy Jjukkumi Samgyeopsal is delicious on its own, but it's also great as a side dish with rice or drinks!

I ordered the fluffy steamed egg because the main dish was spicy. You can really taste the eggs in it!

Fantastic scene

I wish I had ordered the steamed egg from the beginning! Next time I come with my partner, I'll order the Jjukkumi Samgyeopsal and steamed egg together.

Of course, the last step is always fried rice, right? They said if you order the 'fried rice' menu item, it comes already fried. So, I added an order of seasoned seaweed rice for ₩1,500 and made my own fried rice!

Warm memories

I brought bean sprouts from the self-service bar, drained some of the sauce, and stir-fried it all together. I liked being able to adjust the 간 (간 is flavor) myself!

They give you plenty of seaweed flakes and rice, even if you only order one portion.

Happy time

I only added a little bit of sauce and stir-fried it mostly with the ingredients. It's like eating seafood stew and stir-frying the rice afterwards. Even though I was full, ending the meal with carbs was the best!

If you're eating Jjukkumi Samgyeopsal in Daebong-dong, definitely add the seasoned seaweed rice and make your own fried rice!! I think it's better to add the seasoned seaweed rice and make it yourself rather than ordering the fried rice menu item because it's more cost-effective and you can adjust the flavor to your liking.

Attractive photo

There are so many delicious meat restaurants in Daegu Daebong-dong, but when you're tired of the usual pork belly and pork shoulder, Yeonhae Donga is a great place to visit. The spicy Jjukkumi Samgyeopsal is great as a side dish with rice or as an appetizer with drinks, so I'll probably visit often with my parents! I enjoyed the final fried rice.

This is a local recommendation for a 맛집 (must-try restaurant) in Bongridan-gil, Daegu Daebong-dong!
