Yangpyeong's Best Kimbap: A Review of the Award-Winning 'Blue Door House'

I headed back to my hometown for the holidays.
After hearing my parents were busy in the fields, I decided to pack some kimbap and visit them in the garden.
While searching for kimbap places, I found one that won the gold prize at the Gyeonggi-do National Kimbap Competition.
Since it was near my house, I went straight there.
Location & Parking
Hours: Monday - Saturday, 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM
Closed every Sunday
They might close earlier than the operating hours if they run out of ingredients.
Parking is available in the alley in front of the store.
Alternatively, you can use the public parking lot under Gongheung 1 Bridge by Yanggeun Stream.
The gold prize at the National Kimbap Competition was well-deserved.
This kimbap restaurant is run by a kimbap expert who has been making kimbap for over 20 years.
They continue the traditional recipe passed down from their mother in Yangpyeong since 1986.
I think their dedication and consistency are what earned them the gold prize.
Although it's a kimbap specialty store, they also take group orders for snacks, fruit cups, and lunch boxes.
Ambiance
They also have group seating available with 4-person tables. The atmosphere is neat and tidy.
You can grab pickled radish, broth, and plates at the self-service bar.
Menu
Their kimbap is made with olive oil, making it easy on the stomach and giving it a clean, refreshing taste.
They offer a variety of options, from basic to spicy to flying fish roe, as well as several keto kimbap choices.
I heard they won the gold prize with their aged kimchi roll and olive kimbap, so I had to try the basic kimbap and the aged kimchi one.
They also have a wide selection of snack and lunch box menus.
There were four of us, so we ordered five rolls to share.
We ordered a variety of options, from the basic Blue Door kimbap to keto kimbap.
I was immediately pleased with the generous portions and thick rolls.
The aged kimchi spam kimbap was the first one I reached for.
The well-fermented kimchi was savory and paired perfectly with the salty spam.
The texture of the kimchi was also great.
Even though it contained kimchi, it wasn't spicy and had a savory flavor that kids would enjoy.
The addictive umami flavor made it clear why they won the award.
The nut kimbap was a great combination of savory and crunchy textures.
The addition of cucumber gave it a refreshing taste.
I was curious what it would taste like, but the savory combination was delicious.
I couldn't leave without ordering the most basic option, the Blue Door kimbap.
It immediately reminded me that the classic is always the best.
The combination of ingredients like cucumber and carrot was perfect, and I especially liked that it wasn't too salty and had a refreshing taste.
The portions were generous, and it tasted like the basic option was the best.
This is the Keto Tuna Kimbap.
It's a healthy option made with egg garnish instead of rice.
The addition of the soft tuna made for a delicious keto kimbap.
We also ordered the basic Blue Door kimbap in the keto version.
My child ate the whole roll.
I guess it's so savory and refreshing that they kept reaching for it. They especially liked the carrot.
All five flavors highlighted the natural flavors of the ingredients while staying true to the basics, with a hint of individuality.
They were generous and healthy.
Made with olive oil, they are easy on the stomach, and the ingredients are generous and varied.
It's clear why they won the gold prize at the National Kimbap Competition.
I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for kimbap that is filling and comforting!
