Soesokkak Mokkoji: A Delicious Find Near Jeju Kumho Resort
8104 Iljudongro, Seogwipo-si, Jeju

On the day we checked out from Kumho Resort, where we stayed on the first day of our trip, I was starving. Our schedule had been so packed that I ended up sleeping through breakfast. After searching for a good restaurant nearby, we visited Soesokkak Mokkoji based on a recommendation from the front desk staff.
Soesokkak Mokkoji Seogwipo
Address: 1st floor, 8104 Iljudongro, Seogwipo-si, Jeju
Hours: 9:30 AM - 7:30 PM
This restaurant is conveniently located near Soesokkak, making it perfect for a post-meal stroll. It's only about a 15-minute drive from Kumho Resort, so accessibility was great. A meal here followed by a walk around Soesokkak was the perfect itinerary.
With operating hours from 9:30 AM to 7:30 PM, it's open for a generous amount of time. The hours were perfect for people like us looking for a late breakfast or early lunch.
The restaurant had a cozy, home-like feel. It was a small space with about 10 tables, but the spacing was good and everything was neatly arranged. The atmosphere was simple yet comfortable.
We ordered the braised cutlassfish (galchi jorim) and grilled whole cutlassfish set menu! As you can see from the price list, it's a great value. The prices were very reasonable, especially considering it's a restaurant near a tourist attraction in Jeju.
The food started coming out, and the table quickly filled up. With the braised cutlassfish, grilled cutlassfish, and various side dishes, a hearty spread was complete. I was so hungry that I was very happy with the amount of food.
All the side dishes are made fresh daily. That's amazing! Kimchi, bean sprouts, stir-fried fish cakes, salad, etc. – each dish requires a lot of work, and the effort was evident.
First, I tried the grilled whole cutlassfish. The size was impressive. The entire fish was served on a long plate, beautifully plated with orange slices.
I took a bite of the grilled cutlassfish on its own. The outside was crispy, while the inside was moist and tender. The savory sweetness of the cutlassfish filled my mouth, and the savory oiliness coated my tongue.
Next, I put the grilled cutlassfish on top of rice and took a bite. The savory flavor of the cutlassfish combined with the nutty flavor of the rice created an even richer taste. This combination was fantastic.
The braised cutlassfish was served in a black pot, and the spicy aroma filled the air as steam rose from it. I could see cutlassfish and baby octopus in the red sauce. Zucchini and green onions were also included, making it a diverse dish.
The radish inside was amazing. The sauce had soaked deep into it, maintaining its crunchy texture while being full of sweet and spicy flavor. The sauce burst in my mouth with every bite.
The cutlassfish was braised so tenderly that it crumbled easily with chopsticks. When I put a piece in my mouth, the sauce had permeated the fish, filling my mouth with a rich flavor. The sweetness and spiciness were perfectly balanced.
I also tried the braised cutlassfish on top of rice. The well-seasoned fish harmonized with the rice in my mouth. The rich flavor of the cutlassfish met the nutty flavor of the rice, creating a perfect harmony.
This time, I mixed the sauce with the rice and took another bite. The sweet and spicy sauce permeated each grain of rice, completely transforming the plain rice into a different dish.
The term "rice thief" was perfect! I was hungry, but I ate two bowls of rice. One bowl mixed with the braised cutlassfish sauce, and one bowl with the grilled cutlassfish. I usually can't even finish one bowl of rice, but I kept eating that day.
I highly recommend this restaurant near Jeju Kumho Resort. The value for money is great, the taste is delicious, and the portions are generous, making it a satisfying meal. I will definitely come again if I stay at Kumho Resort next time!
