I recently posted about how the taste of my frequently visited Gyodong Jjamppong restaurant had changed, leaving me disappointed... Luckily, a commenter named "건강둥이" (HealthDungyi) informed me that the previous owner had opened and was operating "Gyodong Jjamppong Gajeong Branch"! (Thank you again, HealthDungyi!)
So, I visited "Gyodong Jjamppong Gajeong Branch" in search of the Gyodong Jjamppong flavor I loved.
Located in an industrial complex, I thought it was a smart choice for the owner to operate here, where there's a guaranteed demand from workers, rather than in the downtown area, where there are many unprofitable delivery orders.
While you can park in the building's parking lot, since it was the weekend, there were plenty of parking spaces nearby, so I parked around Osan Gajeong Park for a short walk. If there's parking in front of the store, you can park there too since it's an industrial complex.
The exterior of the restaurant gives off a genuine Chinese cuisine vibe. Inside, there are about 10 tables for four people, which is more spacious than I expected. The interior is also very clean.
The menu seems to be the same as at the "Gyodong Jjamppong Osan Branch."
Here's a look at the menu and prices:
Jjamppong: ₩9,000
Jajangmyeon: ₩7,000
Chadol Jjamppong (Beef Brisket Jjamppong): ₩12,000
Jjamppong Rice: ₩9,000
Shrimp Fried Rice: ₩9,000
Chadol Jjamppong Rice: ₩12,000
Jajang Rice: ₩8,000
Fried Rice: ₩8,000
Fried Dumplings: ₩6,000
Tangsuuk (Sweet and Sour Pork) Mini: ₩10,000
Tangsuuk Small: ₩15,000
Tangsuuk Medium: ₩20,000
Tangsuuk Large: ₩25,000
I ordered the classic Gyodong Jjamppong, of course.
They provide pickled radish, onions, and chunjang (black bean sauce). Side dishes are self-serve here, and rice is free. Kimchi is available at the self-serve bar if you want some.
Not long after, my Gyodong Jjamppong arrived. Before tasting it, I wasn't sure if it would properly represent the original Gyodong Jjamppong flavor.
The moment I lifted the noodles, I could feel a slightly undercooked, springy texture even before tasting them. Sure enough, after one bite, it was the same noodle texture that I loved from Gyodong Jjamppong!
I didn't confirm whether the actual owner of Gyodong Jjamppong Osan Branch runs this place, but the taste is exactly as I remember and loved. I was so satisfied with the taste that I got a bowl of rice and added it to the Jjamppong soup.
The rice at Gyodong Jjamppong Gajeong Branch is perfectly cooked, making it great for mixing with the soup. The moment I mixed the rice, I thought, "This is it!"
The thick soup coated the rice grains with its rich flavor, making it incredibly delicious. And then there was the clam! Something that I had forgotten. It enhances the unique flavor of the Jjamppong as you chew it.
There's a surprisingly generous amount of clam, and it goes well with the Jjamppong. I'll let a photo show you the level of my satisfaction with the flavor, no other fancy words needed.
It made me realize that the taste of a franchise restaurant can vary so much depending on the chef.
If you want to enjoy the real taste of Gyodong Jjamppong, I highly recommend visiting "Gyodong Jjamppong Gajeong Branch!"
