Perfect Wangsimni Gathering: A Review of Oneul Bossam Kalguksu

Last weekend, I visited Oneul Bossam Kalguksu Wangsimni Main Branch, a place I often frequent, for a get-together with two friends to celebrate upcoming weddings. It was such a satisfying spot for our Wangsimni wedding invitation meeting that I wanted to share my experience.
Located near Wangsimni Station in the Haengdang Market shopping district, Oneul Bossam Kalguksu opens at 11:30 AM. Keep in mind that many people start visiting right when it opens for lunch.
What initially drew me in was the image projected by its exterior. It looked so clean and neat at first glance, which made me wonder about the food. After trying it, it has become a place I visit regularly.
The interior is generally clean and well-maintained, with plenty of tables. It can comfortably accommodate a large number of customers.
Their main dishes are Hwangtae (dried pollack) Kalguksu and Gabrisal (pork jowl) Bossam. They pride themselves on serving food that is freshly boiled, cooked, and prepared every day, which raised my expectations. And indeed, every dish was incredibly delicious.
Aprons are available on one of the walls, so you can easily grab one if needed. They are disposable, making them hygienic to use.
The menu consists solely of Bossam and Kalguksu, along with three types of Kimchi. This shows how dedicated they are to these dishes. Having another meeting in Wangsimni, Oneul Bossam Kalguksu came to my mind without any hesitation.
A distinctive feature of this restaurant is that when you order Bossam, you get Kalguksu as a complimentary dish. Conversely, when you order the Kalguksu set meal, you receive a sample of Bossam. We ordered the Gabrisal Bossam for three people.
The freshly made Kimchi and the seasoned chives were absolutely delicious. Once I started eating, I couldn't stop. Who knew chives could be such a tasty ingredient!
The seasoned chives were so flavorful that I could easily eat an entire bowl of rice with just that. Imagine how delicious it is with Bossam!
The Kimchi was crisp and refreshing, and the moderate spiciness kept me coming back for more. It was so perfect for my taste that I could eat it every day.
If you participate in a receipt review event after ordering, you can receive either a soft drink or extra Kalguksu noodles as a service!
We were so impressed with the chef's genuine skill that we immediately participated and got a free cider. It made us feel so happy!
The complimentary Kalguksu wasn't just a sample. It was cooked on a table burner, smelled amazing, and came in a generous portion.
I didn't realize it while it was boiling, but when I scooped it up with a ladle, there were quite a few clams. They apparently use seafood broth, and the clams made the soup even more refreshing.
My friends who came with me for the wedding invitation gathering were also very satisfied.
I was even more pleased when I cooked it to my liking. The fact that I could enjoy the last sip of the soup warm was also a plus.
The clams were incredibly fresh, making them enjoyable to chew. I felt like I had finally tasted well-made Kalguksu after a long time.
These days, many noodle restaurants don't make their own Kimchi, which makes them less appealing. But this place uses high-quality Haenam cabbage and makes it themselves, resulting in a different level of flavor.
The Gabrisal Bossam looked clean and moist. To maintain this visual appeal, they must boil it frequently, which shows how diligent the owner is.
Usually, Bossam meat has too much fat for my liking. But this place had a good balance and a savory, clean taste, which I appreciated.
Dipping it in salted shrimp sauce added another layer of savory flavor to my mouth. I was truly impressed by how much attention they paid to each ingredient.
The Bossam Kimchi was perfectly sweet and refreshingly spicy. I could see the owner's efforts to achieve this great taste.
The dried radish Kimchi was also refreshing and crunchy. It was a charming combination with the meat.
Even though the Bossam wasn't greasy, I kept reaching for the Kimchi. Perhaps it was because both the Kimchi and Bossam were so excellent that I wanted to fully experience their combination.
The lightly salted cabbage also enhanced the flavor of the meat. Eating it this way reminded me of the Bossam I used to eat while making Kimchi as a child.
With such excellent food, it would be a waste not to have at least a little bit of alcohol. I had a glass of Soju, which was surprisingly smooth and sweet.
I've been visiting this place every time I eat out lately, and I've never been disappointed. I highly recommend it to anyone in Seoul who wants to enjoy affordable Bossam and Kalguksu made with genuine skill. If you try it once, you'll likely become a regular.
I highly recommend it to those looking for a place for a Wangsimni wedding invitation gathering.
