Mungteong Seoul National University Station: A Budget-Friendly Korean BBQ Restaurant Perfect for Group Dinners

This review is based on my honest experience after receiving a complimentary meal from the restaurant.
Tired of oily foods after the long holiday? I visited a Korean BBQ restaurant near Seoul National University Station to enjoy some savory grilled meat. Mungteong at Seoul National University Station offers thick cuts of meat, delicious side dishes, and a cozy atmosphere, making it a comfortable place to dine.
????️ Address: 1st Floor, 473 Bongcheon-ro, Gwanak-gu, Seoul
⏰ Hours: 3:00 PM - 12:00 AM
Mungteong is conveniently located near Seoul National University Station (Line 2), Exit 6. It's just across the street, making it easily accessible by public transportation. If you're driving, there's a private parking lot a 5-minute walk away (KRW 2,000 per 60 minutes).
???? Exterior & Interior
The restaurant is easy to find on a corner of a major intersection, thanks to its striking yellow sign.
Mungteong's interior features round tables reminiscent of a Korean street food stall (pocha). The interior creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for gatherings with friends or company dinners.
The window seats offer great sunlight during the day and a beautiful ambiance with mood lighting at night, making them the best seats in the house!
Mungteong sources its pork directly from farms in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, selecting only meat with at least 3cm of intramuscular fat. The freshness, taste, and texture of the pork are all exceptional.
This restaurant has even been featured on MBC's 'Live Broadcast Tonight' as a must-try meat destination.
They serve pork that has only been fed general feed, free of antibiotics, synthetic antibacterial agents, and hormones. This results in better marbling, a richer pork flavor, and a delightful combination of chewy fat and tender meat.
The restaurant carefully selects the meat through a four-step process, ensuring top quality.
???? Menu & Prices
The menu offers great value for money, from the 'Fist Meat' platter to add-on portions, special cuts, and various side dishes to complete your meal.
They also have an impressive variety of side dishes to complement the meat, including Kimchi Cold Noodles, Spicy Pork Bone Fried Rice, Mungteong Special Rice, and Cucumber Bibim Noodles.
Other options include Tofu Soybean Paste Stew and Spicy Chewy Noodles, so you can choose according to your preference.
???? Basic Table Setting
The basic side dishes include fresh vegetables, kimchi, and a salad. The aged Jeolla-do kimchi (aged for over 3 months) and green onion kimchi are particularly outstanding.
They also provide three types of sauces: homemade shrimp salt, barley soybean paste, and mushroom wasabi. Adding these to the savory meat enhances the flavor even further.
Mungteong Fist Meat 500g (KRW 45,000)
I started with a platter of high-quality assorted cuts including pork neck, pork belly, and pork skirt meat. The marbling was stunning, resembling flowers blooming on the meat.
Signature Mungteong Special Rice (for 2) (KRW 4,500)
One of Mungteong's signature dishes is the Special Rice, made with freshly cooked shiitake mushroom rice. It's seasoned with whole perilla seeds and fragrant perilla oil for added flavor and nuttiness.
Since they use fresh, high-quality meat, Mungteong recommends cooking the pork to only 80% doneness to fully enjoy its unique texture and juicy flavor.
The staff grills the pork neck and pork belly for you. The custom-made aluminum grill ensures the meat cooks to a perfect golden brown.
The grill's design allows excess oil to drain away, resulting in a more tender and less greasy flavor. The potatoes and green onions are also grilled without the oil, allowing you to appreciate their natural flavors.
Even if you prefer your meat well-done, try cooking it to only 80%. Once you taste the juicy meat, you'll be pleasantly surprised!
It's been a while since I've tasted pork with such a chewy texture. I think it must be because of the good marbling.
The meat was so delicious that the alcohol flowed freely. However, I decided to only have a small drink to accompany the meal.
Mungteong's special touch is their homemade sauce made with fermented sand lance fish sauce and salted sand lance guts. For extra flavor, add finely chopped garlic and chili peppers.

For your first bite, try dipping the meat generously in the homemade, lightly salted shrimp salt. It's also delicious with the mushroom wasabi. You can't go wrong pairing it with kimchi too!
The mushroom pot rice is cooked to order and has an amazing aroma. The combination of chewy rice and flavorful mushrooms is so appealing that it awakens your appetite.

The portion is for two people, and they divided it into bowls for easy eating. If you crave rice with your meat, this is the perfect side.
It's also delicious with well-fermented green onion kimchi or regular kimchi. Because the rice is freshly cooked, it tastes extra delicious. I don't usually eat rice with meat, but when I eat at Mungteong, I always recommend getting the Special Rice.
You can also mix half of your rice with the special sauce for a completely different flavor.

When I was young and didn't have much appetite, I would mix rice with soy sauce, sesame seeds, and fragrant sesame oil. This mushroom rice is an upgraded version of that simple dish and I truly enjoyed it.
I'm also curious about their Tofu Soybean Paste Stew with lots of tofu, and the Kimchi Cold Noodles with their tangy and refreshing broth and chewy noodles, so I'll have to visit again soon.
They offer one free corkage per table if you make a reservation through Naver, so keep that in mind when visiting Mungteong. If you are looking for a great place for team dinner, I highly recommend Mungteong Seoul National University Station.
