Gutung-i Sangam: A Must-Visit Restaurant in Sangam-dong, Seoul
61 World Cup buk-ro 44-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul

Last Saturday, I visited Gutung-i Sangam with my friends, a well-known restaurant in Sangam-dong, Seoul. I'd like to introduce this place as a lunch spot in Sangam that everyone raved about for its high-quality wet-aged meat.

Address: 1st Floor, 61 World Cup buk-ro 44-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul
Operating Hours: Daily 15:00 - 24:00
My usual spot, Gutung-i Sangam, was a barbecue restaurant I visited for a late lunch. It's about a 5-minute walk from Exit 9 of Digital Media City Station. Since it's a busy area with heavy traffic, I recommend using public transportation if possible.
If you're driving, there's no dedicated parking, so you'll need to use nearby public parking lots such as Sangam No. 1 Public Parking Lot, Park M Parking Tower, or Mapo-gu Community Convenience Facilities.
The interior is decorated in a modern style typical of a Korean BBQ restaurant. It was fun to look at the amusing messages left by customers on the walls.
If you write a receipt review, you can participate in a 100% winning roulette event. We won 3rd place and enjoyed a free bowl of cold noodles (naengmyeon).
Ordering was easy with the menu clearly divided into categories. We ordered the signature Beef Short Rib Plate (So-Kkotgalbi Hanpan) and pork belly (Ogyeopsal) from the staff.
As soon as we ordered, they brought disposable aprons for everyone. This thoughtful touch was much appreciated.
The charcoal that was set up first was impressive. The heat was intense, resembling a fiery furnace.
The completed table setting was neat and included unexpected dishes, which surprised us.
The kimchi was perfectly fermented and flavorful, hitting all the right notes. Since even the basics were delicious, we naturally had high expectations for the other dishes.
You can refill any side dishes at the self-service bar. The side dishes were fresh, so we visited the bar frequently during the meal. The beef radish soup (sogogi-muguk), which was served as a complimentary dish, was full of ingredients. It was evident that every dish at Gutung-i Sangam was prepared with care.
The meat looked exceptional from the start. It's aged at a low temperature (wet-aged) for over 300 hours before being served.
First, when we put the pork belly on the heated grill, the sound of sizzling filled the air, along with a savory aroma. The glistening juices were a sight to behold.
Dipping a well-cooked piece of pork belly in the meat dipping sauce (yukjang) brought out its unique flavor. I could once again appreciate why this place is known as a great lunch spot in Sangam.
I often enjoyed the various side dishes such as pickled vegetables and green onion salad. They played a significant role in reducing the richness and enhancing the flavor.
The delicious meat naturally made the alcohol taste even better. It was such a wonderful time that I ended up drinking more than usual.
The Beef Short Rib Plate was truly the highlight of Gutung-i Sangam. The marbling, like snowflakes, and the vibrant color of the meat indicated that it was a top-quality cut.
The sight of the meat grilling was mesmerizing, reigniting my appetite. I felt like I could visit this restaurant every day.
We cut the meat into bite-sized pieces and made sure not to overcook it. Overheating can make the meat tough.
The juices that burst in my mouth with each bite were truly exceptional. It paired perfectly with my favorite green onion salad.
The fermented green onion kimchi (pa-kimchi) played an unexpectedly crucial role. Its crunchy texture and green onion flavor prevented the beef from becoming too rich.
I also added a touch of wasabi for a slightly spicy finish. Try grilling the seaweed slightly for another delightful combination.
Finishing the meal with cold noodles (naengmyeon) is a must. It feels incomplete if you don't order it at a Korean BBQ restaurant.
The icy broth that ran through my chest was incredibly addictive. Even though I felt a chill, I couldn't put my spoon down.
The cold broth permeated the noodles, and I slurped them all up. Gutung-i Sangam exceeded my expectations in terms of both taste and value, so I highly recommend visiting.
