Galbi Changgo: A Delicious Tteokgalbi Experience Near Damyang's Metaprovence

Galbi Changgo, a renowned tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties) restaurant in Damyang, was our final stop during our trip. After a refreshing walk through the Juknokwon Bamboo Forest, we were craving something satisfying, and this place was the perfect choice.
Despite the crowds, we were able to visit comfortably thanks to the ample parking space. Its location near the end of Metaprovence street also made it easily accessible.
Galbi Changgo is easily found by searching its name directly on navigation apps. A large, free parking lot across the street made it convenient to visit even on weekends.
The restaurant is open from 11 AM to 9 PM daily, with last orders taken at 8 PM. Its location is ideal for a meal after exploring the main attractions of Metaprovence, making it easy to plan your itinerary.
The interior design seamlessly blends the warmth of traditional Korean architecture with modern elements. Wooden tables are lined up under soft lighting, creating a cozy atmosphere.
The restaurant features a spacious main hall and separate private rooms, making it perfect for families or group dining.
I ordered the Hanwoo (Korean beef) Tteokgalbi Daetong (bamboo-steamed rice) Set Menu (33,000 KRW). The table was filled with an impressive array of side dishes.
The banchan (side dishes) included cabbage salad, ssam (wrap) vegetables, yuja (citron) braised burdock root, soy-sauce marinated shrimp, kimchi, seasoned mushrooms, colorful pickled radish wraps, seasoned crab, and pickled perilla leaves – each dish showed great attention to detail.
The soy-sauce marinated shrimp and seasoned crab were especially addictive. The flavors paired perfectly with the rice, making it hard to stop eating.
The doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) with brisket had a rich and deep flavor, while the refreshing acorn jelly salad perfectly complemented the hearty Damyang set menu.
The main dish, Hanwoo tteokgalbi, was served with three pieces per person (six total) on a mini stove to keep them warm throughout the meal.
The tteokgalbi was slightly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a delightful texture and a subtle charcoal aroma. With each bite, I understood why this place is known as a tteokgalbi 맛집 (delicious restaurant) in Damyang.
Wrapping the tteokgalbi with pickled radish wraps, seasoned salad, and pickled perilla leaves created a harmonious blend of sweet, sour, and savory flavors that was absolutely divine.
The rice was served in a bamboo tube with ginkgo nuts, kidney beans, and chestnuts, infusing the rice with a fragrant bamboo aroma. Enjoying it with the meat and side dishes was filling and satisfying.
One of the most memorable aspects of the meal was the restaurant's perfect atmosphere. It truly lives up to its reputation as a Damyang tteokgalbi 맛집.
As expected of a 맛집 in Metaprovence, the interior was luxurious and clean. Bamboo decorations were placed throughout the restaurant, and the warm lighting created a pleasant ambiance for families enjoying their meals.
The staff were friendly, and the food was served at a leisurely pace, allowing us to fully enjoy our meal. A comforting meal in a traditional Korean setting was the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring Damyang!
If you're looking for a hearty and delicious meal during your trip, I highly recommend Galbi Changgo. It's a place where you can experience the elegance of Damyang's traditional cuisine, the fragrant aroma of Hanwoo daetongbap, and the unique atmosphere of a Metaprovence 맛집.
With excellent taste, ambiance, and location, I would definitely visit this restaurant again on my next trip.
