While planning to visit a well-known restaurant in Ungcheon, Yeosu, we were drawn to a famous raw fish restaurant by its promise of over 20 side dishes.
In the beautiful city of Yeosu, with its stunning blue sea, my friends and I set out to find a delicious place to eat.
We decided to visit a famous raw fish restaurant in Ungcheon, Yeosu, known for its abundant seafood and numerous side dishes.
Choosing this place turned out to be an excellent decision.
1. Location & Address Information
This restaurant is located at 103, Gukpo 1-ro, Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do.
It boasts optimal accessibility for travelers, being just 5 minutes from Dolsan Bridge and 10 minutes from Yi Sun-sin Square.
The eye-catching sign made it easy to spot from a distance.
It's also a great spot to explore Yeosu's various attractions before or after your meal.
Perfect for a leisurely stroll, soaking in the romantic atmosphere of Yeosu.
The restaurant is open from 10 AM to 10 PM daily.
You can enjoy everything from an early lunch to a late dinner without time constraints.
Additionally, roadside parking is allowed, easing the burden of driving.
The interior was a space that harmonized restrained sophistication with neat elegance.
Spacious, large tables were arranged, making it suitable for large gatherings or company dinners.
The cleanliness of the restaurant was remarkable.
It was impeccably tidy with no visible contamination.
Clean vinyl covered the tables, adding to the cleanliness.
Also, the staff's consistent friendliness added to the enjoyment of the visit.
Looking over the menu, there was a wide selection of live fish including flounder, sea bass, rockfish, sea bream, and turbot.
The choices were plentiful, including Yeosu's unique haemo dishes and spicy stews.
After much deliberation, we ordered a small-sized striped beakfish.
2. The Table Setting
After ordering and taking a short breather, an unexpectedly large number of basic side dishes were served.
The generous spread that filled the entire table eliminated any concerns about the cost.
Instead, we were happily overwhelmed, wondering where to start.
The fresh kimchi had a crisp texture and a spicy-sour taste that refreshed the palate.
The combination of green vegetables, onions, and carrots created a variety of textures and was perfect as a palate cleanser.
The sea squirt was memorable for its unique appearance and chewy texture.
The subtle sweetness that spread as you chewed made it addictive.
With a taste similar to squid, it was a delicacy that anyone could easily enjoy.
3. Octopus
The boiled octopus, offering a pleasant chewiness, was so tender that it was easy to eat.
The spicy and sour flavor of the gochujang (chili paste) added to the perfectly prepared octopus created a magical experience that kept us reaching for more.
The addictive taste kept us going.
This fantastic octopus dish made it seem like a bottle of liquor would disappear in the blink of an eye.
4. Striped Beakfish
The striped beakfish was the highlight of this visit.
Because the fish is prepared immediately after ordering, there was a short wait, but it was worth it for the top-quality raw fish.
The appetizing presentation and glossy surface were tempting.
The striped beakfish was very evenly prepared.
The distinct pattern showed a different level of quality.
The texture, which combined elasticity and chewiness, was overwhelming.
The rich, savory flavor that filled the mouth showed why striped beakfish is considered the finest raw fish.
The unique, deep, and rich flavor had advantages that could not be compared to any other raw fish.
It was the best taste, as if the flavor of the freshly caught sea was being conveyed directly.
The elegant taste on the tongue proved the value of the expensive striped beakfish.
Considering the side dishes, the cost-to-satisfaction ratio was very high.
The fish was sliced thick enough to fully enjoy the chewy texture.
Thin slices of fish disappear before you can enjoy chewing them, but the fish here perfectly suited my taste.
Various sauces, such as soy sauce and gochujang, were provided, so we could enjoy it in various combinations.
Each time we changed the sauce, the new discovery was enjoyable.
In particular, wrapping it in lettuce gave it a fresh vegetable flavor, so we kept eating it.
We couldn't leave out alcohol from this special meal.
The soju enhanced the flavor of the raw fish with its refreshing taste.
Soju with a piece of raw fish seemed to wash away the fatigue of the day.
5. Sweet Potato Fries
As a side dish, sweet potato fries, loved by children, were also served.
The freshly fried sweet potato fries were a delicacy, with a crispy exterior and a moist, sweet interior.
The warm, fluffy texture was easy to enjoy with the raw fish.
It was oily but clean, and the sweet taste was addictive, constantly stimulating the appetite.
Golden-brown fish pancakes were also served.
Thanks to the egg batter, it was very savory and mild, and it was easy to eat because there were no small bones.
Also, the chopped peppers made it subtly spicy, which made it even better.
The sea weed salad gave us a break with its sweet and sour taste.
The crunchy texture and refreshing taste contrasted with the main dish, further stimulating the appetite.
It was also a great dish to change the taste during the meal.
The baby octopus skewers had an excellent combination of spicy and sweet sauce and chewy octopus.
The subtle spicy flavor further stimulated the appetite.
It was fun to take it off the skewer and eat it.
6. Spicy Fish Stew (Maeuntang)
The maeuntang was spicy yet flavorful.
The hot soup warmed the stomach.
The rich seafood aroma stimulated the taste buds and was a great accompaniment to the meal.
As such, there were various side dishes that even children would enjoy.
I was convinced that this was a great place for the whole family to come together.
Eating the warm rice and maeuntang together will make for an even more filling meal.
The stew was filled with sujebi (hand-pulled dough), fish, and fresh vegetables, making it fun to pick out the ingredients.
The long-simmered broth was refreshing and spicy, as if it was piercing through my stomach, tempting people.
The rich and refreshing broth allowed me to experience the scent of the sea once again.
The spicy yet refreshing taste perfectly completed the meal.
It went well with rice, and the chewy sujebi added to the fullness.
The spicy flavor was not strong, so it was a mild maeuntang that anyone could easily enjoy.
This meal was by far the best.
I felt great satisfaction for the first time in a long time with the perfect table setting, and I was very happy with it.
The pleasant conversation with friends and delicious food combined to create special memories.
I sincerely recommend that you experience this place when visiting Yeosu.
