Exploring the Culinary Delights of Jeju's Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market

Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market Food in Jeju
Grilled Jeju Hairtail
When traveling to Jeju, Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market is a must-visit spot, right? I love food so much that I always do a market tour wherever I go. There seems to be no place with as much variety as Jeju's Olle Market! During this trip, I particularly enjoyed the grilled Jeju hairtail, so let me introduce you to the restaurant I visited at Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market. Additionally, I will recommend some snacks I enjoyed after the meal.
1. Lunch at Olle Samdajeong in Seogwipo Olle Market
The location of Seogwipo Olle Market is about an hour from Jeju Airport, in Seogwipo City. I visited on the second day of my trip after touring Jeju City on the first day. After having lunch and exploring the market, I continued my sightseeing.
* Since it is quite far from the airport, make sure to plan your route well!
After arriving, parking is available at the public parking lot dedicated to Seogwipo Market, which is paid. You need to self-checkout at the payment machine before leaving (first 30 minutes are free, then 500 won for every 15 minutes).
I used the first parking lot because it was close to Olle Samdajeong. It was easily accessible, and despite the rain, I was able to enter the restaurant quickly, which lifted my spirits.
✔ Address: 18, Jungang-ro 54-gil, Seogwipo City, Jeju
✔ Parking: Recommended to use the first parking lot of Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market
✔ Operating Hours: 11 AM - 10 PM (Closed from 3 PM to 5 PM) every Wednesday
✔ Suitable for groups, reservations, takeout, and children
2. Elegant and Clean Interior
The interior of Olle Samdajeong has a sophisticated atmosphere reminiscent of a high-end Japanese restaurant, which made me feel pleased as soon as I entered. Even my husband, who is particular about cleanliness, thought it was acceptable.
The restaurant is spacious, making it suitable for group visits. There are also private seats available for those who prefer to enjoy their meals without disturbances.
3. A Delightful Spread
We ordered the representative menu, grilled Jeju hairtail set. They only serve fresh fish, not frozen, which raised my expectations. While the hairtail was grilling, the side dishes were quickly set up, each with a delightful presentation and excellent taste that whetted my appetite.
Especially the fernbrake and bean sprouts were to my liking, and I refilled them several times. The fernbrake was tender and savory, while the bean sprouts were crunchy and refreshing.
4. Stunning Visuals and Flavor of Grilled Jeju Hairtail
The whole grilled hairtail served at Seogwipo Olle Market was impressive from the start, revealing its massive size that made my jaw drop.
I had never seen such a large hairtail before and was fascinated, taking pictures. The owner expertly separated the bones and scales right in front of me.
Thanks to the fresh fish, the meat was tender, and following the owner's advice, I enjoyed it as if I were scooping ice cream.
The highlight was the sushi topped with hairtail, a combination I had never experienced before. But once I tasted it, I was convinced of the perfect harmony between wasabi, ginger, hairtail, and rice.
5. Dessert Time at Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market
After filling up, I set out to shop for desserts at Seogwipo Olle Market. Every store tempted me with snacks, and if I weren't so full, I would have bought everything.
I decided to get a pack of famous sweet rice cakes. Everyone says to try the fruit mochi, so I bought one. Honestly, it wasn't anything special, but it was fresh and chewy enough to be worth a try. The popular place for fruit mochi is Grandma's Rice Cake Shop.
While walking, I also encountered a chewy cookie that has become popular lately. If you haven't tried it yet, skip the long lines and enjoy it at the market!
If you want to taste authentic grilled Jeju hairtail, I highly recommend visiting Olle Samdajeong located in Seogwipo Market. Even picky eaters will surely be satisfied here. After your meal, continue your culinary journey by exploring the unique snacks in Jeju's Olle Market.
