Duplex Dongan Branch: A Review of a Daejeon Brunch Cafe
245 Wondongan-ro, Seo-gu, Daejeon

A few days ago, my girlfriend and I went to Daejeon to meet an acquaintance and decided to visit a brunch cafe for a light meal.
Since it's a regular spot for us, they were generous with the service. Both the service and the taste of the menu were excellent, so I wanted to leave a review.

1. Daejeon Brunch Cafe Information
Address: 1st floor, 245 Wondongan-ro, Seo-gu, Daejeon
Hours of Operation: 10:30 - 21:00 (Closed on Tuesdays)
Break Time: 15:40 - 17:00
Located in the heart of Daejeon's Dongan neighborhood, this Western-style restaurant boasts an impressive brick exterior. I was even more excited to learn that the owner-chef, who has been running a restaurant for over 10 years, cooks the food himself.
A few parking spaces are available in front of Duplex Daejeon Dongan Main Branch. As expected of a Daejeon brunch cafe, it often gets fully booked during peak hours, so it's a good idea to call in advance if you're driving.
2. Interior Design
As soon as you step inside, you can feel the sophisticated ambiance. The combination of wood tones and brown colors creates a warm yet luxurious atmosphere, and the lighting serves as a subtle accent.
A sign stated their promise to customers to always make honest food with fresh ingredients. This small detail inspired trust.
Ice water, napkins, and cups were set up on one side of the store for customers to use freely. It's much more comfortable to get these things yourself without feeling like you're bothering anyone.
High chairs are also available in the Daejeon brunch cafe, making it family-friendly. There were plenty of chairs, so there seemed to be enough for everyone.
You could order from the menu using a tablet on the table. Surprisingly, you could also order cafe drinks, which was convenient because we didn't have to go somewhere else for coffee after our meal.
After ordering, I looked around the store and saw information about a review event. If you write a Naver review, you can either draw a lottery ticket or receive soup.
The food came out quickly after we ordered. When we spread out the various dishes on the table, the colors were vibrant. It was clear that this restaurant was confident in its plating.
Pickles to cut through any potential richness during the meal were served in a cute bowl. These thoughtful touches are probably why famous influencers line up to visit.
3. Shrimp Garlic Salad
The first dish to come out was the Daejeon brunch cafe's Shrimp Garlic Salad. It was a salad with fresh vegetables and plump shrimp, and I was surprised by the generous portion size.
As soon as I took a bite of the salad, the flavors of olive oil and garlic gently spread, and the chewy texture of the shrimp was palpable. The occasional burst of refreshing tomato cleansed the palate.
Most shrimp salads have a lot of lettuce but only a few shrimp. This Western-style restaurant in Daejeon had a lot of plump shrimp, which made the texture stand out and felt like a great value.
When I put a little bit on my plate, the flavors and textures of each ingredient became even richer. The dressing wasn't overpowering and had a refreshing taste that cleansed my palate, which I appreciated.
The accompanying ade was refreshing. It didn't taste artificially sweet, but rather had a fresh taste as if it were made with freshly squeezed lemons, making it the perfect complement to the meal.
4. Basil Cream Pane Pasta
The plating, with a thick bread filled with rich basil cream sauce, was eye-catching. The bread inside the cream was moist, while the part sticking out was crispy, creating a variety of textures that was impressive.
I tore off a piece of bread and ate it with the basil pasta. The combination of fragrant basil and savory cream filled my mouth perfectly. And the subtle smoky flavor made it even more addictive.
I heard that this well-known Western-style restaurant in Daejeon orders organic basil and brown mushrooms directly from farms. Perhaps that's why the basil flavor was so strong.
When you take a bite full of fresh basil, the fresh aroma rises pleasantly. The pasta noodles were cooked perfectly, which added to the overall quality of the dish.
5. Grade 1 Korean Beef Tenderloin Steak
The plating of the Grade 1 Korean Beef Tenderloin Steak, which I ordered as the main course at the Daejeon brunch cafe, was impressive. The meat and potato puree were neatly arranged on a white plate, increasing both visual satisfaction and anticipation for the food.
The meat cut smoothly as soon as I put my knife to it. The inside was perfectly cooked to a medium-rare with a vivid pink color, but there was almost no blood, which was neat.
When you take a bite, the juices burst and a savory aroma envelops your mouth. It was a dish that clearly demonstrated the 10-year know-how of the owner-chef of this Western-style restaurant in Daejeon.
The side of potato puree that came with the steak was creamy yet crispy. Eating it with the meat and whole-grain mustard enhanced the flavor.
6. Overall Review of the Daejeon Brunch Cafe
I left feeling satisfied after enjoying a pleasant meal filled with the care of the owner-chef who has been running a Western-style restaurant in Daejeon. Above all, the sophisticated interior and neat plating enhanced the satisfaction of the meal.
If you want to enjoy authentic Western cuisine in Daejeon, I highly recommend visiting this place.
