Discovering Authentic Korean Cuisine in Ho Chi Minh City

Lately, I've been seeing a lot of locals living in Vietnam.
I've had the chance to meet many locals in Ho Chi Minh City for various reasons like work issues or short-term overseas training.
Due to my husband's job, I've been staying in Ho Chi Minh for quite some time now.
Sometimes, I find myself missing the local food, especially authentic grilled pork belly!
Recently, I discovered a fantastic restaurant in Ho Chi Minh that I couldn't keep to myself, so I wanted to share the information.
It's a Korean restaurant located in Phu My Hung, Ho Chi Minh.
The interior is designed to reflect local aesthetics, making it feel like home.
Surprisingly, my kids adapted to the Vietnamese cuisine quickly, but the real challenge was satisfying the adults' taste buds.
I wanted to cheer up my husband and also craved delicious local food, so I researched extensively to find where to eat.
However, being abroad, it wasn't as easy as I thought.
The texture and flavor of the meat you eat abroad differ greatly from what you can find locally, making it hard to get that authentic feeling even if you eat meat to recharge.
Then, I found a restaurant in Ho Chi Minh's Phu My Hung that seemed to bring the local experience right to Vietnam.
Although it was a bit far from our area, it was so delicious that we visited multiple times.
Recently, when friends asked for recommendations for a Korean restaurant in Ho Chi Minh, I immediately shared this information!
You'd think, can this taste exist in Vietnam? It feels like a little local brick house.
The exterior is filled with eye-catching red bricks.
Once you step inside, it feels just like a bustling local restaurant.
The subtle aroma of grilled pork belly and various stews evokes a sense of nostalgia.
While sitting at the Ho Chi Minh Phu My Hung restaurant and placing an order, I noticed that some staff members could communicate simply in the local language.
The side dishes served were also reminiscent of what you would find locally, making it even more delightful.
It turns out the owner focuses not just on localizing Korean food but on providing an authentic experience of the local culture.
This restaurant is well-known not only among locals but also among tourists visiting the area.
The grilled pork belly is perfect and arguably even tastier than what I had back home!
The owner has put a lot of thought into the thickness and cut of the meat to replicate the local experience.
The grill plates are also the kind you only see locally, making it a pleasant surprise to find them in Vietnam.
The quality of the meat is excellent, and the perfectly recreated grilled pork belly was incredibly delicious.
I felt that the grill plate truly enhanced the flavor of the pork belly.
I noticed many young locals enjoying the restaurant as well.
The local MZ generation seems to be really into the local culture these days.
Everyone at the tables was grilling pork belly and enjoying fruit soju, which we also decided to try with our pork belly.
We also ordered a stew, which is quite popular among locals.
At first, I was unsure if locals would enjoy it since many don't eat fermented soybean stew.
However, my worries were unfounded as locals enjoyed it, calling it part of K-culture.
We love the fermented soybean stew here, which has been crafted to maintain the deep flavors of traditional Korean cuisine.
It’s not just any fermented soybean stew; it captures the local essence and taste, making it even more enjoyable.
For locals, everyone knows that fried rice after grilled pork belly is not optional but essential!
With the perfect meat, I was really looking forward to the fried rice.
When they prepare the fried rice that slightly sticks to the grill, it pairs perfectly with the stew.
The stew is incredibly flavorful and tastes authentically local, making both my husband and I feel nostalgic as we enjoyed it.
This place feels even more local than other restaurants.
It’s already become popular among the Vietnamese MZ generation, attracting many for late-night snacks, gatherings, and family outings.
Parking is available, making it convenient to visit, and the owner teaches the staff some local language during breaks, facilitating smooth communication.
This restaurant truly boasts great taste and atmosphere, ranking among the best in Ho Chi Minh's District 7.
The restaurant also offers premium Hanwoo beef for reservation once a month.
This is a rare find in Vietnam, and if you reserve in advance, you can enjoy delicious meat.
With care put into every ingredient, it’s impossible for it not to taste good.
Besides the grilled pork belly and stew we enjoyed, they also serve dishes like kimchi stew made with locally sourced kimchi and soybean paste stew, allowing you to truly experience authentic Korean cuisine.
If you're visiting Vietnam, I highly recommend visiting the Ho Chi Minh Phu My Hung Korean restaurant to enjoy delicious Korean food and have a wonderful time.
It’s a place that perfectly recreates the local vibe and flavors, making it my go-to restaurant.
