Discovering a Hidden Gem in Itaewon: Masbon Izakaya

It's been a while since my last post!
I recently discovered a fantastic restaurant in Itaewon, and I wanted to share my experience with you all through this post.
This post will cover Masbon's outdoor entrance, the interior seating arrangement, and my reviews of the dishes I tried!

Masbon's Location
Masbon is conveniently located within a 3-minute walk from Itaewon Station Exit 1, making it easily accessible for pedestrians.

From the entrance, Masbon exudes a charming Japanese vibe!
With excitement, I headed up to the second floor.
Store Entrance
Passing through the Japanese-inspired entrance, you'll find Masbon, filled with various types of tables.

Inside Masbon, there are different types of tables.
From tables for two or four to even six people.
There's also a cozy counter seating area where you can sit side-by-side.

The menu even has a cute little map summarizing Masbon!
As you can see in the pictures, there are various seating options described.
The lovely drawings of the restaurant made me feel good even before the food arrived!

Masbon Izakaya is known for specializing in all its menu items, from seafood and tempura to nabe (hot pot) and skewers.
For those who have difficulty choosing, I wanted to offer some recommendations to help you decide!
Menu Recommendation
Basic Otoshi (Appetizer)
Before ordering, they give you cabbage and miso paste as a complimentary appetizer.
The salty miso paste goes really well with the cabbage.
And even a wet towel!
After wiping your hands and eating the appetizer, you'll be so hungry that you'll make a quick decision!

Renkon Hasamiage
First up is the Renkon Hasamiage.
I made an excellent choice.
It's a fried dish made by stuffing minced chicken between lotus root slices.
The texture of the lotus root and the perfectly cooked minced chicken paired so well with a draft beer...
This is a must-try.
The accompanying yuzu ponzu sauce and green tea salt enhance the flavor of this fried dish even more.
I want to eat it again.

Spicy Miso Nabe
I ordered the Spicy Miso Nabe!!
The Spicy Miso Nabe doesn't really have a spicy flavor; it tastes more like kimchi stew.
I ordered it thinking it would taste like miso stew, but it was different from what I expected!
There was so much tofu as a topping, almost half a block, and a generous amount of thinly sliced beef!
So I enjoyed a hearty nabe.
I also snapped a photo of all the dishes I ordered.
Teppan Chicken Neck Grill
The last menu item, the Teppan Chicken Neck Grill!!!
This was the ultimate tender dish.
Honestly, it tastes like chicken neck meat stir-fried in scallion oil and seasoned with salt and pepper.
But the seasoning is just perfect!!!
And the chicken neck meat is so soft and tender.
Even the scallions were delicious.
Is it just that anything fried or stir-fried is always delicious?
All three dishes I ordered were plentiful and delicious.
I've written detailed reviews for each menu item, so you should be able to find them easily, right?
If you want to enjoy a pretty, Japanese-style izakaya...
