Celebrating Mom's 60th at Gyeongbokgung Black Jamwon: A Perfect Venue for Special Occasions

This restaurant has been operating for quite a while on the first floor of the Pastel Building.
It's the Gyeongbokgung premium line, hence the 'Black' in the name.
Located between Jamwon Station and Banpo Station, and within the Pastel Building, parking is easy, making it an ideal spot for gatherings.
The main hall is spacious, but the private rooms are also well-appointed and luxurious, making it popular for gatherings, formal introductions between families (Sanggyeonrye), and birthday parties.
I visited to celebrate my mom's 60th birthday.

We initially planned to order 3 servings of the Raw Ribs course and 2 of the Marinated Ribs course, but since the Korean Hanwoo Sirloin was on promotion and only 5,000 won more expensive than the American Raw Ribs course, we went with 3 servings of the Hanwoo Raw Sirloin course and 2 of the Marinated Ribs course. (I figured the marinade would be similar anyway, and I preferred marinated ribs over short rib patties.)
Neat and Tidy

Chilled radish kimchi (Dongchimi) and porridge are the first to arrive.
The Dongchimi was very refreshing and delicious.
The vegetable porridge was so lightly seasoned it was almost bland, but I liked it that way.

Assorted sashimi including flounder, salmon, and more.
They explained the types of fish, but I don't remember now...
Anyway, it was a beautifully presented platter of sashimi.

Since it was divided into 2/3 portions, of course, it was also placed like this next to us.
Appetizers like seasoned vegetables and salad.
These were also lightly seasoned.
Our family prefers subtle flavors, so we liked it, but if you don't, you might think it's completely unseasoned.
My younger brother expertly mixed the liquor

Ilpoom Jinro + Hwayo + Lemon Slice Set: 35,000 won.
I saw in a brochure that it used to be on promotion for 30,000 won, but unfortunately, that's over. However, since regular bars in Gangnam charge about the same, it wasn't too bad.

I recommend Hwayo tonic or Jinro tonic to older folks who don't drink much alcohol. It's refreshing and sweet, so they really like it. It's become a must-have for our family when we eat sashimi.
It looks like beef tartare, but it's skate (Gajami) sikhae (fermented fish).
It's delicious when you eat it with marinated ribs.
When I was almost done eating, I noticed they also had Yukhoe Tangtangi (live octopus and beef tartare).
I regret not ordering it (I'm a beef tartare lover).
Things like this also came out...

Beautifully colored king oyster mushrooms and Hanwoo sirloin.
I personally prefer raw meat.
(I'm the type who enjoys the natural flavors rather than the seasoning.)

Our server grilled the meat perfectly.
They were so incredibly kind, which made me feel great.

The king oyster mushrooms were grilled like this.
Try eating them plain or just dipped in salt.
The aroma is amazing.

Side dishes that pair well with the meat also came out.

Towards the end of the course, clam soup and fried eggplant are served. The clam soup was slightly spicy, very refreshing, and incredibly delicious.

Because I like to eat meat with rice, I asked for the meal to be served before grilling the marinated ribs.
The cold noodles (naengmyeon) were clean and refreshing (but since it's part of the course, the portion wasn't as large as a standalone dish), and the Doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) was really delicious.

Thanks to their accommodating my request, I was able to enjoy the sweet marinated ribs with rice.

While ordering, they asked if we were celebrating anything special today. I mentioned it was my mom's 60th birthday celebration, and during the meal, they surprised us with a birthday spread.
She said the seaweed soup was really delicious, and everyone was touched by their attentive and kind service. ????

We finished the meal with the tender and sweet marinated ribs.

Finally, the course ended with plum tea to aid digestion.
After clearing the table, they even lent us props for blowing out the candles and enthusiastically took photos, making my mom's 60th birthday party run very smoothly.

I highly recommend it for important anniversaries or family gatherings.
Then enjoy!
