An Elegant Gathering at Dalgaebi: A Seoul Hanjeongsik Gem Near Deoksugung Palace

Right next to Deoksugung Palace, we had an elegant gathering at Conference House Dalgaebi. Our connection from work has continued for 15 years.
Dalgaebi, a well-known spot for Hanjeongsik (Korean Table d'hôte) near City Hall Station.
Located next to the Jeongdong Cecil Theater, it's a popular venue for important gatherings and formal introductions between families. We were looking for a place near Deoksugung Palace to enjoy the cool atmosphere of early autumn, and that's how we discovered this place.
Dalgaebi is about 100 meters from City Hall Station Exit 3. Come out of the subway exit and walk along the Deoksugung Palace stone wall, and you'll see it right away.
Reservations are essential, and because they prepare the food according to the number of people, you need to inform them of the number of guests and the menu in advance. Since we had a party of five, we reserved a room on the first basement floor.
There were many red-toned stone decorations, which I asked about and learned they were salt. Although we're told to reduce our salt intake, good salt is good for your health. It reminded me of the days when salt찜질(sauna) and massage were all the rage.
Following the staff's guidance, we went down to the basement where they showed us the salt decorations, and a spacious room appeared.
While exchanging pleasant greetings, the first dish of the 'Clear Water' set menu, which we had booked in advance, was pumpkin porridge with watery kimchi.
The watery kimchi, made by inserting crunchy cabbage between pears, looked so carefully prepared. The cool broth stimulated my appetite.
I'm not drinking alcohol these days due to dental treatment, but we toasted to our joyful meeting. Two of the sisters had weddings for their children this year, making it a meaningful year for them.
The seasonal salad of vegetables and green grape salad would be delicious in bibimbap as well.

The main dish, grilled abalone, was superb. The taste of the finely sliced and butter-grilled abalone was incredibly tender. I should grill the abalone I received as a Chuseok gift like this.

The grilled ribs and the accompanying vegetable salad were also delicious.

This is a table set with multigrain rice and beef radish soup. I finished a bowl of rice with the salty perilla leaves and stir-fried anchovies.

Conference House Dalgaebi has quiet and cozy rooms, making it a suitable place for upscale gatherings.
