A Taste of Sokcho at Sangnam-dong: Fresh Seafood and More!

Today's post is about my visit a few days ago to 'Sokcho Squid Fish Market Sangnam Branch,' a brand new restaurant that just opened!

I wanted some fresh squid sashimi after work on Sunday, so I decided to visit this place. It's easy to find since it's located near the Goindol (dolmen) intersection in Changwon Sangnam-dong.

They have free parking in the building's underground parking lot, but I heard it's quite small. It might be better to park comfortably in a nearby parking building haha (all the underground parking lots in Sangnam-dong buildings are so tight...ㅠ)

I was about to enter, but wait... the tank is empty...?

I came to eat squid, but I don't see any squid...????

I started to feel uneasy from this point ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

And sure enough, fresh squid sashimi was sold outㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ

As expected from a new popular restaurant... it's our fault for coming late after workㅜㅜㅜ

Sadly, we decided to try the squid sashimi next time. Instead, we ordered:

A medium-sized assorted sashimi platter

Squid tempura

Spicy fish stew (Maeuntang)

1 Soju and 1 Beer

Order complete!!!

You can easily order using the tablet at each tableㅎㅎ

We found it convenient, but I noticed two elderly people next to us were having difficulty. My mom said she finds these things difficult too, which made me sadㅜ. But thankfully, the staff kindly helped them ㅎㅎ

Although there was a large menu on the wall, there were too many customers to take a good picture, so I'm using the menu I found online.

It was past 8 PM on Sunday evening, and the restaurant was still crowded. Even the empty seats filled up quickly after we arrived...

The restaurant was newly opened, so it was clean, spacious, and niceㅎㅎ (I wish they had trash cans under each tableㅎㅎ)

And the seafood restaurant even has a self-service bar!!!

They have seaweed soup kept warm, side dishes, and lettuce wraps.

Awesome????

They brought us basic sauces and front plates, but the chili paste and soy sauce are on each table. Our friend poured chili paste for us but poured it into their own giant front plate ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

It looked like they came just to eat chili paste ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

First came the spicy fish stew (Maeuntang)

The portion was surprisingly large, making it a super cost-effective Maeuntang!!!????

There's Sichuan pepper powder at the self-service bar, so you can add it to your liking.

We like spicy Maeuntang, so we asked for extra chili powder, and although the Maeuntang had plenty of fish and everything was good,

It felt a little blandㅜㅜ The chili powder and basic seasonings didn't feel spicy either.

Still, it's a really cost-effective and great Maeuntangㅎㅎㅎ

Next up was

Squid Tempura

Ah... this was seriously amazing...

Our top pick was the squid tempura...

????????????????????????????????????????????

It was so, so, so~~~~~ crispy, moist, and delicious

This is a must-order, no questions asked..

I want to eat it again even as I'm writing thisㅜㅜ

Finally, the medium-sized assorted sashimi platter

How can a medium size be this much!!

I love sashimi, but I don't know what kind of fish it was, but

I really liked the size it was cut into.

I don't like it when it's cut too big, but it was just the right size, making me happy

Plus, it stayed cold while we ate, making it a perfect assorted sashimi platter!!!

Although we couldn't eat the squid sashimi because it was sold out, the assorted sashimi platter made up for it.

They even have ramen noodles at the self-service bar, which I love ㅋㅋㅋ

Next time, if the Maeuntang is a little spicier,

I'll be able to drink smoothly.

Since it's a newly opened restaurant,

The staff is friendly but very busy.

They kept bringing us menus and receipts from other tablesㅋㅋㅋ

Next time, I hope to eat the squid sashimiㅜㅜ

I'm also going to eat the squid tempura and assorted sashimi platter again.
