A Taste of Namsan 2-dong: Yu Chang Banjeom and Their Famous Chinese Bibimbap
On a trip to downtown with my mom, we finally visited Yu Chang Banjeom, a popular Namsan 2-dong restaurant I've been wanting to try!

I was a bit nervous about the potential wait after seeing reviews on other blogs, but luckily, there was no line when we arrived during off-peak hours! We visited between 1:30 PM and 2:00 PM.
It's a short walk from Hyundai Department Store Banwoldang, just a little ways into the alley.
The interior is quite spacious.
Since it's a Chinese restaurant, the turnover rate is fast, so even if there's a wait, it supposedly only takes a few minutes to get in.
Here's the Yu Chang Banjeom menu.
They specialize in Chinese Bibimbap (Jjajangmyeon with stir-fried seafood and vegetables), so many of the menu items have 'Chinese' in their name!
They also have a separate Mala-flavored section, which is very unique and intriguing.
For a summer special, they offer cold Jjamppong and Kongguksu (cold soybean noodle soup).

Original Chinese Bibimbap: ₩9,000
Old-Fashioned Jjajangmyeon: ₩6,500
Mini Sweet and Sour Pork (Tangsuyuk): ₩13,000
I have a bad habit of ordering Tangsuyuk whenever I go to places like this... so we got the Tangsuyuk. Haha.
Napkins, wet wipes, and bottle openers are available at the table.
You can get pickled radish, onions, and soy sauce at the self-serve bar.
Aprons are next to the cashier!

I went to the self-serve bar to get side dishes right after ordering...
...and our dishes were already there when I returned to the table!
Chinese Bibimbap (₩9,000)
It's topped with a beautifully cooked sunny-side-up egg. Hehe.
I usually only eat noodle dishes when I go to Chinese restaurants, so it's been a while since I've had Chinese Bibimbap. The smoky aroma that hits your nose... why haven't I had this in so long?!
Jjamppong broth comes with the Chinese Bibimbap!
Since the Chinese Bibimbap itself is similar to Jjamppong in base, I enjoyed this as a palate cleanser while eating the Jjajangmyeon. Haha.
The portion was quite generous! If you have a big appetite, you can get more rice from the self-serve bar and add it.
The spiciness was similar to Shin Ramyun (spicy Korean ramen), and it wasn't too salty, but there was a lot of pepper, so the pepper flavor and aroma were strong~
I usually look for strong flavors when eating out, so I really loved how spicy and thick it was!
Old-Fashioned Jjajangmyeon (₩6,500)
I ordered the Jjajangmyeon because I thought the Chinese Bibimbap might be too spicy.
It's great for a cheap meal or as a side dish! Since it's old-fashioned Jjajangmyeon, it's less strong and has a milder taste than the Jjajangmyeon you get at Chinese restaurants these days.
It kind of tasted like Jjajangmyeon you make at home.
It was great having one rice dish and one noodle dish!
Since it has a mild taste, I think it would be delicious with Mala flavor added.
Adding a lot of chili powder also makes it delicious. Hehe.
Mini Sweet and Sour Pork (Tangsuyuk) (₩13,000)
Actually, the Tangsuyuk came out first.
I was surprised at how quickly they brought it out. Lol.
I wondered if it was pre-made, but it was warm... really amazing... ;;
Tangsuyuk is definitely best with the sauce poured on.
I think delicious Tangsuyuk shows its true value when the sauce is poured on. (Sauce poured over vs. dipped)
No arguments accepted. Hehe...
I love how the sauce coats it thinly and evenly when you pour it on.
Dipping it in soy sauce with chili powder is just ❤️
They also have plenty of candy to freshen your breath after the meal~!
Overall
I can't believe I hadn't been here yet while living in Daegu. ㅠㅠ
As rumored, the Chinese Bibimbap was amazing, living up to its reputation as a Bibimbap restaurant.
Unlike other Chinese Bibimbap places, the pepper flavor is strong, which I loved! The Tangsuyuk was decent, and the Jjajangmyeon was a great combination with the Chinese Bibimbap.
I scraped every last bit off the plate, so I highly recommend this as a Chinese restaurant in Jung-gu... ♡
