A Luxurious Korean Dining Experience in Baebang-eup: Gyeongbokgung Kappo Jeju Asan Branch

After dropping the kids off at school, my wife and I decided to visit Costco for a long-awaited shopping trip. By the time we finished, it was already lunchtime. Since we were in the Cheonan-Asan area, we decided to search for a delicious lunch spot nearby. Gyeongbokgung Kappo Jeju Asan Branch immediately caught my eye when I searched for 'Baebang-eup 맛집 (delicious restaurant in Baebang-eup)'. The name itself sounded luxurious, raising my expectations.
First impressions were great, starting with the building itself. It had parking available up to five floors underground, so we didn't have to worry about parking at all. These days, even if a restaurant is good, inconvenient parking can deter you from visiting, but this place had none of that stress.
The exterior was clean, and the interior had the neat and refined feel typical of a Korean traditional course meal restaurant. I was expecting the prices to be quite high, but they were surprisingly reasonable, making me think that I could enjoy a luxurious meal without breaking the bank.
The restaurant was located on the second floor of the building, and as soon as we entered, we were struck by the spacious and pleasant atmosphere.
What stood out was that all the seats were in private rooms, allowing us to dine in a private atmosphere. It seemed perfect for family gatherings, formal introductions between families (Sangkenrye), or important business meetings.
They also sold bento box packages often seen in high-end Korean restaurants or hotels. They looked luxurious from the outside and seemed perfect as gifts.
Out of the many options, we ordered the 'Saeng Galbi Course (Fresh Ribs Course)'.
The appeal was that it was a blend of Korean and Japanese cuisine, allowing you to enjoy a variety of flavors at once.
The first course consisted of fresh sashimi, marinated shrimp, japchae (glass noodles), water kimchi, steamed egg, and various seasoned vegetables, all of which were meticulously prepared and of high quality.
The marinated shrimp wasn't too salty and had a savory taste, and the sashimi was so fresh that it melted in my mouth.
After the first course, the staff set up the charcoal grill, which looked to be of excellent quality.
Soon after, the fresh ribs arrived. The staff grilled the meat for us, making it much easier to enjoy.
The meat was juicy and tender, and tasted great whether dipped in salt or in the special sauce. In particular, the kale kimchi was a great complement to the meat, balancing the richness and keeping me coming back for more.
After eating the meat, I was quite full, but there was still more food to come. Clam soup, soybean paste stew (doenjang-jjigae), deep-fried rockfish, and various side dishes were served together. The clam soup was refreshing and rich, perfect for cleansing the palate, and the deep-fried rockfish was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, which was very satisfying.
Finally, for dessert, we were served plum tea, which left a refreshing and clean finish. Overall, the quality of the food was excellent, but above all, I was really impressed by the attentive service of the staff. They were friendly and responsive from start to finish, allowing us to enjoy a comfortable meal.
If you're looking for a Korean course meal restaurant with a nice atmosphere near Cheonan-Asan, I highly recommend Gyeongbokgung Kappo Jeju Asan Branch in Baebang-eup!
