A Delightful Seafood Experience in Sokcho

What food do you enjoy when traveling to Sokcho?
For me, the clear waters and fresh air of Sokcho immediately bring to mind fresh sashimi and grilled shellfish. Knowing that delicious food can elevate the quality of a trip, I headed to a well-known restaurant for shellfish, Myeongpum Meat and Shellfish. I’ll share the delightful experience my daughter and I had during our trip.
To cut to the chase, this place was genuinely committed to quality. Sokcho has many shellfish restaurants, especially clustered around the beach. However, it can be disappointing when the prices are high and the shellfish isn't fresh. But this place was different. We were able to enjoy truly fresh shellfish, exceeding our expectations.
Myeongpum Meat and Shellfish is located at 42 Cheonsaegil, Sokcho, Gangwon Province. The restaurant is easy to find, situated in front of the Expo Tower by Cheongcho Lake, making it a pleasant spot for a stroll.
Parking is available in public lots or along the side streets next to the restaurant. Since it was raining, we parked as close as possible in the alley. The sudden drop in temperature surprised us.
The interior had a cozy, tent-like atmosphere, which I found refreshing compared to typical restaurants. Each table had a grill, and there were special chairs available for children.
We chose a window seat, and it was amusing to see my daughter pondering over the menu. I suggested she just order the set menu.
When I asked the owner, he recommended the A set for two, so we ordered it without hesitation. Before the food arrived, I stepped outside to enjoy the lovely view.
The outdoor tables exuded a vibrant atmosphere, and I regretted not being able to eat there due to the rain. The outdoor terrace looked especially inviting.
Our meal began with a delightful array of side dishes, including kimchi and pickled radish. The portions were perfect for two, and refills were available, so we didn’t have to worry about running out.
To our surprise, the meal included plump mussels in a refreshing broth that was incredibly tasty.
The A set featured fresh scallops, neatly prepared shellfish, cheese-filled geoduck, pork belly, and seasoned bean sprouts. The owner guided us as we started grilling, and my daughter was in charge of cooking.
As we were engrossed in eating, we didn’t even notice the cheese starting to burn. My daughter was doing a great job grilling, and I encouraged her as we enjoyed the food.
Just as we were finishing the grilled shellfish, a clam stew arrived. Initially, I worried there might not be enough food, but with the stew, I was concerned about leftovers. At 59,000 won, the meal was a fantastic deal compared to a previous meal I had for 75,000 won that offered much less.
We began with the shellfish, followed by the pork belly. The fresh, plump shellfish tasted like a bite of the ocean, and there was no sand, which was a huge plus.
The portion size was perfect for two, allowing us to enjoy every bite without waste. I particularly loved the mussels, which were delicious and succulent.
Eating the pork belly with the seasoned bean sprouts created an amazing combination, and the crunchiness of the sprouts complemented the meat perfectly.
As we wrapped up our meal, I chose cola instead of alcohol, feeling a bit sad about having to leave.
Overall, there was nothing to criticize about the meal. The shellfish grilled with spicy sauce was a highlight, and the fact that they offer unlimited refills of fresh, plump shellfish made it even better. The pork belly was tender and flavorful, and the seasoning on the bean sprouts was excellent.
If you’re visiting Sokcho to see the autumn foliage in Seoraksan, consider enjoying fresh and delicious shellfish here to enhance your travel experience.
Lastly, here’s a tip: If you use the All-Day Sokcho Pass and order more than 80,000 won, you can receive an additional 20,000 won worth of scallops!
