During a visit to Ansan with my mother, we stumbled upon a local gem recommended for its delicious food! We decided to try Choburi Kimchi Stew, a restaurant known for its authentic flavors, and enjoyed a delightful meal together. Here’s my honest review of our experience.

To cut to the chase, Ansan Choburi Kimchi Stew is the perfect choice for those tired of artificial seasoning. The refreshing and spicy broth, derived from well-fermented kimchi, is exceptional and has even satisfied my discerning mother’s taste, proving its reputation as a verified eatery.

This place offers a hearty meal that is perfect for any occasion, whether you’re looking for comfort food or a hangover remedy.

Located at 145-7 Gwangdeok 3-ro, Danwon-gu, Ansan, this restaurant is a true representation of home-cooked meals, with each ingredient prepared with care. It’s especially popular among local office workers due to its location near Gojan Station.

Parking information: The restaurant has a convenient private parking lot. During lunchtime, the roadside parking can fill up quickly, but there are paid parking options nearby and a basement parking area in the building. There’s also free public parking available along the street, so if you find a spot, you can park there. Although peak times might see a lot of cars, the quick turnover of meals means parking stress is minimal.

The ambiance strikes a balance between a nostalgic old-school feel and a clean, tidy environment. While the exterior shows signs of age, the interior is well-maintained, with a clean sign that catches the eye. The entrance features appetizing food photos that entice customers.

The simple decor complements the kimchi stew perfectly, creating a comfortable dining atmosphere with friendly staff who make the experience enjoyable.

When the Choburi Kimchi Stew arrived, my first bite made me exclaim, "Refreshing!" The natural sourness of the kimchi infused into the broth provides a deep flavor without any artificial sweetness.

The pork in the stew is tender and flavorful, and the portion is generous. Even after indulging in plenty of meat, I felt satisfied until the last bite. The side dishes were neatly presented, and an interesting addition was a fried egg that could be mixed with rice.

Moreover, the rice was served as pot rice. The combination of warm, freshly cooked rice and kimchi stew was irresistible! Pouring water over the rice allowed us to enjoy crispy rice at the end, which my mother particularly loved. She mentioned that it tasted even better than what we make at home, finishing her bowl in no time.

Tips for your visit: Consider adding ramen noodles and extra broth when the stew level drops. This way, you can enjoy a second round of deliciousness. If you’re a fan of balanced nutrition, pairing the spicy stew with a fried egg is a must!

For dessert, the restaurant offers ice cream and misutgaru (mixed grain powder) slush. Unlike many places that only serve vending machine coffee, this spot has unique dessert options. We happily shared the ice cream and misutgaru slush, which was nutty and refreshing, prompting us to refill it twice!

Before you go, keep in mind that lunchtime on weekdays can get busy with local office workers. It’s best to visit before noon or after 1 PM.

The food was so delicious that many customers took takeout for their families. I was so satisfied that I considered takeout for my next visit. It was wonderful to enjoy a tasty kimchi stew and spend quality time with my mother.
