A Delicious Pork Stew Experience at Kim Hee-sun's Jaeyuk Jjageuli in Yuseong, Daejeon

It was daytime, and there were many people enjoying foot baths near Yuseong Hot Springs.
I thought to myself, 'Wow, people actually come here specifically for this experience!' as I headed to Kim Hee-sun's Jaeyuk Jjageuli (pork stew).
I consider my hobby blog a success if I just have a few neighbors who are food connoisseurs.
A few of my neighbors are those kinds of people to me.
Today, I chose Jjageuli after seeing a post from one of them and wondering what Bongmyeong-dong had to offer.
On the way, there was a great beef restaurant in an alley that my company used to frequent for dinners.
I parked the car.
There seemed to be parking space for about three cars.
The menu was very simple:
Jjageuli: ₩12,000
Bokkeum (stir-fry): ₩13,000
Minimum order of 2 servings.
Dol-dol Mari (rolled omelet): ₩11,000
We ordered 2 servings of Jjageuli and 1 Dol-dol Mari.
Some of you might be wondering what Dol-dol Mari is – it's a rolled omelet.
I figured there must be a reason why they charge ₩11,000 for a rolled omelet, so I had to try it.
The interior of the restaurant had a high ceiling, so it didn't feel cramped at all.
The seating was spacious, so I thought it would be perfect for company dinners or lunch breaks.
It feels very open because there are tables everywhere.
It felt like a clean, prefabricated building.
The air conditioner, fan, and circulator were all running where we were sitting.
Kim Hee-sun's Jjageuli comes with basic side dishes.
They also have Samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly) on the menu, and since they have both Doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and Jjageuli, I thought it would be nice to order Jjageuli as a soup dish while grilling Samgyeopsal.
I liked that they gave us both soft and crispy lettuce.
Personally, I liked that the Jjageuli came out quickly, and the dishes we ordered came out right away.
Dol-dol Mari, the ₩11,000 rolled omelet.
They said they would pack it up for us if there were any leftovers.
They brought it to us, saying they made it extra delicious.
Hahaha.
Thank you so much!
Kim Hee-sun's Jjageuli comes with S솥밥 (stone pot rice) as a standard. There were two bowls: one for scooping out the rice and one for eating the Jjageuli.
Here's the Jjageuli for two people.
There were additional menu items like pumpkin and kimchi, which made me wonder what they were for.
The Jjageuli contains dried pumpkin. I originally like it, and I considered adding more, but it seemed like there was already enough, so I didn't add any extra.
The side dishes generally had a healthy taste.
It seemed like they only provide side dishes that can be made quickly.
Oi-sobagi (stuffed cucumber kimchi)
Muk (acorn jelly)
Eomuk bokkeum (stir-fried fish cakes)
Gim (seaweed)
When I first tried it,
It tasted different from the Jjageuli I'd had when it wasn't fully cooked.
It had a bland taste, so
I added the garlic and Doenjang (soybean paste) that they provided and simmered it together.
Then, as the Doenjang dissolved, the seasoning seemed to be just right.
The stone pot rice also came out with a few beans.
They also gave us hot water, so
We scooped out the rice, poured in the water, and closed the lid.
I don't usually eat salty food, but I was craving Jjageuli that day, and when I tasted it,
It wasn't bland, but it felt like there was a lot of broth.
I spotted my boyfriend diligently making lettuce wraps.
Quickly snapped a photo.
It was good to make lettuce wraps because there was Jaeyuk (stir-fried pork) inside, and
It wasn't too strong, so it wasn't overwhelming. This is a good place for people who don't like stimulating foods and want to eat Jjageuli.
A slight disappointment was that the menu became a bit tiring by the time we were eating the Sungnyung (scorched rice soup).
I don't really like Sungnyung, so I just drank the Sungnyung water and left the rest. But I think people who like Sungnyung
Could also order Doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and eat it together.
Just a funny story: I heard someone say while eating, "I need to sprinkle some water on the windows?"
Then water really fell on the window. LOL.
Hahahaha. As we were driving away, my boyfriend said there was a hose connected to the window and water was pouring down.
Anyway,
If you're craving Jjageuli, you should definitely visit and enjoy it.
