Last weekend, I met up with my college buddies after a long time and wanted to find a special place for dinner. After some searching, I discovered this amazing restaurant near Hongdae Entrance Station. It's about a 7-minute walk from the station, and the stroll along the Gyeongui Line Forest Path made the journey even more pleasant.

Located on the first floor of a building on Seogang-ro 13-gil, Gogi Ggun Kim Chun Bae immediately caught my eye with its clean and sophisticated exterior. The interior visible through the glass windows raised my expectations, and the small potted plants and stylish design near the entrance gave it the feel of a high-end restaurant in Itaewon or Gangnam.

As soon as I stepped inside, I was impressed by the cozy atmosphere created by the warm wooden interior and soft lighting. The spacious hall, with about 40 seats, had tables of various sizes, accommodating from 2 to 8 people, and ensuring a good level of privacy. Vintage frames and posters hung on the walls, exuding a retro vibe that would appeal to the younger generation. There's also an outdoor terrace where you can enjoy a meal with a view of the Gyeongui Line Forest Path on a nice day. Each table is equipped with a smokeless roaster, allowing for a comfortable, smoke-free dining experience. They even thoughtfully provide plastic bags under the chairs for your belongings.

Let's talk about the food! The menu offered a wide variety of options. The set menus, allowing you to mix and match beef and pork, were particularly impressive, and the reasonable prices, starting in the 20,000 won range per person, were also appealing. The beef selection included premium cuts such as sirloin, chuck flap tail, and tenderloin, while the pork options included a diverse range of cuts like pork belly, pork shoulder, and pork skirt. After much deliberation, we opted for the mixed beef and pork C set, which included sirloin, chuck flap tail, and pork shoulder – the perfect amount for four people. For side dishes, we ordered steamed egg, soybean paste stew, and their signature half-and-half cold noodles.

The basic side dishes that started appearing on the table were immediately captivating. Crispy scallion salad, savory soybean sprout salad, and refreshing pickled onions were neatly prepared, along with ssamjang (soybean paste), salt, and wasabi. The salty flavor of the anchovy sauce was especially delicious, and the fresh lettuce and perilla leaves were piled high, stimulating my appetite.

When the main course, the meat, arrived, the atmosphere at the table changed completely. Watching the staff carefully grill the meat raised my anticipation. First, the beef sirloin sizzled on the roaster, turning a golden brown – it was a masterpiece! I took a piece of the perfectly grilled sirloin, dipped it lightly in salt, and as I put it in my mouth, the tender texture and juicy flavor filled my mouth.

A delightful scene

The chuck flap tail that followed was even more amazing. The chewy texture added to the fun of chewing, and the deep flavor of the meat enveloped my taste buds, eliciting exclamations of delight. Wrapping it in lettuce with ssamjang created a completely different level of flavor, with the greasiness of the meat being pleasantly neutralized.

An appealing photo

The pork shoulder was another must-try delicacy. The thick-cut pork shoulder was grilled to a crispy exterior and a moist interior, stimulating my sense of smell with its unique savory aroma. Putting it in my mouth with scallion salad created a wonderful harmony of crispy texture and tender meat, delivering an addictive flavor. Grilling kimchi together and placing it on top added a clean and refreshing aftertaste.

What was particularly impressive were the mushrooms that came with the meat. As the oyster mushrooms and enoki mushrooms were grilled, absorbing the meat juices, their unique chewiness and subtle sweetness deepened the flavor of the meat even further. It was a different flavor than just eating the meat alone, and it was never boring until the very end.

The steamed egg was another dish not to be missed. The soft and moist texture and subtle flavor properly balanced the richness of the meat, and the soybean paste stew was excellent with its savory and deep flavor. Taking a spoonful of it in between bites of meat refreshed my mouth and made me want more meat.

A precious memory

Finally, the half-and-half cold noodles I ordered were absolutely amazing. Being able to enjoy the coolness of the mul naengmyeon (water cold noodles) and the spicy-sweetness of the bibim naengmyeon (mixed cold noodles) in one bowl was refreshing, and the chewy noodles were the perfect finish when eaten with the meat.

Everyone who joined me that day expressed their great satisfaction. Everything was perfect – the quality of the meat, the attentive service of the staff, the clean interior, and the comfortable atmosphere. Considering the charm of the Gyeongui Line Forest Path location and the reasonable prices, it's definitely a value-for-money gem. Next time, I want to dine on the outdoor terrace with my family, and I highly recommend this place for company dinners with colleagues. If you're looking for a great restaurant near Hongdae Entrance Station, don't hesitate to visit Gogi Ggun Kim Chun Bae in the Hongdae Forest Path!
