A Delicious Izakaya Experience in Seochon: Kyungsung Store

Seochon is such a fun place!
I initially visited Seochon to browse clothes, but I ended up at Kyungsung Store, an Izakaya, to try their botan shrimp (spotted shrimp) sashimi!
Location: 2-minute walk from Gyeongbokgung Station Exit 1
Address: 13-1, Jahamun-ro 1-gil, Jongno-gu
Hours: 4:00 PM - 2:00 AM / Fri & Sat: ~3:00 AM
The fact that they're open until 2 AM, and 3 AM on Fridays and Saturdays... Impressive!
I've heard it's a popular spot in Seochon, and it seems perfect for a 2nd or 3rd round with friends.
They have a diverse menu, but I was set on trying the botan shrimp sashimi!
The interior is surprisingly spacious with seating on both the 1st and 2nd floors. We were guided to the 2nd floor.
I saw a variety of customers, from couples on dates to friends hanging out.
They aim to replicate the authentic flavors of Japan, and the cozy atmosphere and interior really made me feel like I was there.
A view of the stairs from above.
The Japanese vibe is strong!
The menu was extensive, but as planned, we ordered the botan shrimp sashimi (half size).
The set includes botan shrimp sashimi + fried shrimp heads + ramen. Even with the half size order, they still include the fried heads and ramen, which was great.
Botan Shrimp Sashimi 1/2 + Fried Heads + Ramen: ₩25,000
Eight beautiful shrimp lined up.
My first botan shrimp of the year!
It also came with fried shrimp heads, and the presentation was very appetizing!
The plump shrimp were so fresh and delicious dipped in soy sauce!
I regretted not ordering the full portion! It was seriously delicious!
The fried shrimp heads were a bit hard, so I recommend them to those with strong teeth! They were savory and tasty when eaten with the mayonnaise-like sauce.
As expected from a Seochon Izakaya, they had a wide selection of highballs and sours.
I ordered the green tangerine sour. The price? ₩6,000. Highballs and sours were reasonably priced and tasted fantastic!
It's more like a juice! This place is a green tangerine sour 맛집 (delicious restaurant)!
The second dish we ordered was eggplant & meatball fritters with arrabiata sauce (₩12,000).
This was an additional menu item that could only be ordered after other dishes, but since I love fried eggplant, I had high hopes.
Of course it's delicious!
The sauce underneath wasn't warm enough, which was a bit disappointing, but the fried eggplant was delicious! It's exactly what you'd imagine a tasty fried eggplant to be!
The price and taste are perfect for a side dish!
One bite and it's all gone.
If you request the botan shrimp ramen while you're eating, they'll cook it for you in the middle of the meal.
The dishes take a little while to prepare, so it might be good to ask for it to be served with the first dishes.
It didn't have a strong shrimp flavor, but who cares? Ramen is ramen!
Ramen with sake at a Seochon Izakaya is the best.
Feeling a little unsatisfied, we ordered one last dish.
Eel Tempura Rice Bowl (₩18,000)
They should really call this Eel Tendon!
Such an aggressive Tendon!
The Tendon is huge!!
Like a true 맛집 (delicious restaurant) in Seochon, I was already full before even starting to eat...
If you come to the restaurant feeling very hungry, you could order the eel tempura rice bowl to start...
The crispy eel tempura was hard to cut! I wish the sauce was a little sweeter, but the portion size definitely makes up for it!
It was a delicious meal!
