I visited Seongwon Dakgalbi, a popular restaurant in Incheon known for its Mul-Dakgalbi (water-based Dakgalbi).
I've ordered takeout a few times and also dined in before. I was curious if the taste would be the same after a long time. Thankfully, Seongwon Dakgalbi was just as delicious as I remembered!
Three adults visited and ordered a medium-sized portion. The amount was adequate, but we were told it was slightly less than one whole chicken. If you eat a lot of chicken or if there are three adult men, I recommend ordering a large size.
When you place your order, you just need to leave it as is. The staff will come and cut the chicken for you and check on it from time to time. Waiting and watching the chicken cook is part of the experience, and then it's deliciously done!
They serve pickled radish and dongchimi (radish water kimchi) as basic side dishes. The dongchimi broth was so refreshing and delicious that I refilled it several times.
I was so busy eating as soon as it was ready that I didn't take any pictures of the fully cooked dish. It includes chewy rice cakes, so I started with those. As you eat the vegetables and chicken, you'll fall for the unique flavor of Mul-Dakgalbi, which is different from Dakdoritang (braised spicy chicken stew). The broth is also very refreshing and flavorful, making you want to keep eating.
Of course, you must order fried rice after you're done with the Dakgalbi! We ordered two servings of fried rice, and because they mixed it with the flavorful broth, it was perfectly seasoned and we devoured it all.
Another great thing about Seongwon Dakgalbi is that they have the kind of ice cream that used to be at Korean BBQ restaurants! It was well-maintained and clean, and it was satisfying to get a scoop of vanilla ice cream for dessert.
The free soft drinks are also a plus. I kept grabbing them because soft drinks, which usually cost 2-3,000 won, were free.
Seongwon Dakgalbi is a place where everyone, regardless of age, can enjoy a delicious meal. It's a Mul-Dakgalbi restaurant that you'll be satisfied with, whether you go with family or friends.
