A Happy Time

I stumbled upon some fantastic local restaurants in Gwangalli, known not only to the locals but also gaining popularity among travelers. I want to share these special places where you can enjoy fresh Korean beef (Hanwoo) at reasonable prices.

A Pleasant Moment

1. The Joeun Hanwoo

Address: 29, Millaksubyeon-ro, Suyeong-gu, Busan

Operating Hours: 12:00 - 23:00

The Joeun Hanwoo, which I visited, is located right next to Gwangalli Beach, offering a stunning ocean view. The building itself is quite spacious, and parking is available in the basement, making it easily accessible by car.

This Gwangalli local favorite is open from 12 PM to 11 PM, allowing you to enjoy lunch and dinner at your leisure. The interior boasts a sophisticated and luxurious atmosphere with great privacy.

The high ceilings make the space feel much cooler and more open. The cleanliness throughout the restaurant and the neatly arranged tableware were impressive.

The staff were very friendly, making it a pleasant experience to order. There was also a movable auxiliary table next to our table, which was very useful.

To taste a variety of cuts, we ordered chuck flap tail (Salchisal), brisket (Upjinsal), and short rib (Galbisal). The side dishes alone filled the table, looking incredibly appetizing at first glance.

An Amazing Sight

There were so many side dishes that my hunger quickly disappeared as I tasted each one. The crunchy green onion salad (Pachae) had a well-balanced sweet and spicy seasoning that refreshed the palate. The subtle spiciness of the green onions and the savory seasoning were perfect for my taste.

The white kimchi (Baekkimchi) was soaked in broth, keeping it moist. The cabbage was crisp and well-fermented, offering a refreshing taste.

The balance of slight sweetness and acidity made it addictive. It refreshed the palate, allowing me to better appreciate the taste of the beef.

The essential onion slices were salty and sweet, pairing perfectly with the beef. The wasabi added a moderately spicy flavor, stimulating the appetite.

We chose the couple set for two, which included three cuts of beef, stew (Jjigae), and a drink, all for a reasonable price of 100,000 won. It was a steal to be able to enjoy Hanwoo at this price.

A Peaceful Scene

The first cut we grilled was the short rib (Galbisal). It's a cut with a good mix of fat and lean meat between the ribs, a flavor that everyone would enjoy.

After grilling it to a golden brown, I dipped it in salt and enjoyed the rich flavor of the beef. The deep savory taste that developed as I chewed was truly impressive.

Despite being a fatty cut, it was tender and not tough. Adding a little wasabi enhanced the clean flavor.

Next, we placed the chuck flap tail (Salchisal) on the grill. The unique and abundant marbling of the Salchisal made my mouth water just looking at it.

The sizzling sound and savory aroma filled the air, and I immediately took a bite as soon as the pinkness disappeared.

It was so tender that it melted in my mouth, and the rich beef flavor was overwhelming. It brought a smile to my face.

It paired even better with the onion slices or green onion salad. The savory juices that flowed with each chew were a testament to the restaurant's expertise.

Lastly, we had the inside skirt (Anchangsal). It was a lean cut, offering a very clean and intense flavor of the beef itself.

The outside was crispy, and the inside was tender, creating a fantastic texture. More than that, it was clean and savory without any gamey smell, which was impressive.

After eating the beef, we also ordered a refreshing chilled noodle soup (Mul Naengmyeon). The noodles were piled high in a large bowl, topped with shaved ice, making it look incredibly refreshing.

The broth was clear and clean, and the moment I took a sip, I felt the heat disappear. The chewy noodles and crisp vegetables were of great quality.

The soybean paste stew (Doenjang Jjigae) included in the set even contained Hanwoo. Thanks to this, the broth was much deeper and richer, and the generous amount of ingredients was satisfying.

They also sell wine that pairs well with Hanwoo, so we enjoyed some together. The grape aroma filled the air, enveloping my palate.

It was sweet and flavorful without any bitterness, and it complemented the beef perfectly, creating a memorable combination.

After finishing our meal, we stepped outside and were greeted by the brightly lit Gwangan Bridge. I admired its beauty for a long time, concluding this special dining experience. The atmosphere and taste were both satisfying. I will remember this Gwangalli local favorite for a long time.

Address: 1st floor, 153, Gwanganhaebyeon-ro, Suyeong-gu, Busan
