A Culinary Journey at Hae Nyeo Se Sammae in Jeju

If you're traveling to Jeju and only eating the usual fare, you're missing out! During my recent visit to Hyupjae, I discovered a place that truly excels in both presentation and flavor: Hae Nyeo Se Sammae. This restaurant is renowned for its whole grilled and braised cutlassfish.
Upon arriving, the view through the large windows revealed an emerald sea, making me feel full before even tasting the food. The building is clean and spacious, with ample parking, so there's no stress about finding a spot.
The high ceilings and open layout perfectly match my preference for airy spaces. The tables are well-spaced, allowing for lively conversations without feeling cramped.
As I entered, the restaurant exuded a strong vibe of a popular eatery, with celebrity signatures adorning the walls, confirming its reputation. The homemade side dishes are available for unlimited refills at the self-service bar, each one bursting with the flavors of Jeju, reminiscent of a home-cooked meal.
Without hesitation, I ordered the braised and grilled cutlassfish. The presentation of the side dishes left me in awe. The main dishes arrived in a long pot, overflowing with generous portions.
The sweet and spicy secret sauce infused the fish, creating an explosion of umami with every bite. The meal began with a rich and savory soup, followed by seasonal sashimi and grilled pork, making it feel like a perfect setup for a drink before the main course.
The fried squid was visually stunning, piled high and perfectly crispy on the outside, while the inside was juicy and chewy. The thin batter ensured it wasn’t greasy, making it irresistible.
The grilled abalone was another highlight, with its rich, buttery aroma enhancing its flavor with each bite. Eating it made me feel instantly healthier, making it a great dish to impress my parents.
They also offer unique local drinks that were incredibly refreshing. Enjoying them while taking in the beautiful scenery was pure bliss.
The whole cutlassfish stew was visually overwhelming, served in a long iron plate, topped with abalone and shrimp—definitely Instagram-worthy. The sauce was perfectly balanced, with just the right amount of sweetness and spice.
The fish was so tender that it fell apart at the slightest touch of chopsticks, melting in my mouth. The seasoning penetrated deep, making it easy to understand why it’s called a "rice thief" when mixed together.
The abalone in the stew was soaked in the sauce, providing a delightful salty and chewy texture. The shrimp, although a bit tricky to eat, added a unique sweetness that elevated the dish.
Thanks to the freshness of the seafood, there was no fishy taste, just a clean and delightful flavor. The radish was perfectly cooked, absorbing the seasoning, and mashing it together with the fish created a heavenly combination.
The grilled cutlassfish was another revelation, with its impressive size leaving everyone speechless. The exterior was beautifully grilled, smoky, and golden brown, while the inside remained moist and juicy.
The staff skillfully removed the bones, making it easy to enjoy without any worries. The seasoning was just right, allowing the natural flavors to shine, especially when paired with rice.
After a hearty meal, the complimentary Americano was the perfect finish. Sipping it on the terrace while gazing at the sea truly encapsulated the Jeju experience.
From the meal to the dessert, I felt thoroughly pampered, making my satisfaction level soar. If you're looking for a place that has both stunning visuals and incredible flavors in Jeju, this is a must-visit. I plan to return with my family to relive this wonderful experience.
