A Cozy Experience at Happiness Jeon House
Namdaemun-ro 1-gil

This post reviews Happiness Jeon House, a jeon-and-makgeolli spot located just a short walk from City Hall Station (Exit 7).
I’ll cover the atmosphere, menu variety, makgeolli selection, and an honest tasting note on the kimchi jeon—including what was great and what could be better.
If you’re looking for a quiet place for after-work drinks with friends and a warm jeon house vibe in central Seoul, this is a solid option to consider.
Location and Why It’s Great for After-Work Drinks
Happiness Jeon House, located in the alley of Namdaemun-ro 1-gil, is just a 2-minute walk from Exit 7 of City Hall Station.
It's the perfect place to enjoy a light drink after work.
Interior Atmosphere
The interior is spacious with warm lighting, creating a great atmosphere for sharing a glass of makgeolli with friends after a long day.
Menu Variety: Jeon, Side Dishes, and Sets
The menu is incredibly diverse!
Options include assorted jeon sets, kimchi jeon, mung bean pancakes, chives pancakes, potato pancakes, seafood pancakes, and great side dishes like tofu kimchi, spicy whelk, and boiled squid.
There's something for everyone's taste.
Especially, the set menu is well-organized, making it ideal for 2-3 people to order an assorted jeon and makgeolli set.
Makgeolli Selection
The variety of makgeolli was impressive.
They had different types like Idong rice makgeolli, Jangsu makgeolli, chestnut makgeolli, and deodeok makgeolli, all beautifully displayed for easy selection.
Beer and soju are also available, so you can decide without much thought.
Personally, I think jeon pairs best with makgeolli!
Stews and Meal Options
All stew options, including pork kimchi stew, brisket kimchi stew, and brisket soybean paste stew, are priced at 9,000 won.
Looking at the menu, it's clear this place specializes not just in jeon but also offers a variety of meals, side dishes, and sets.
Basic Side Dishes
The basic side dishes served were kimchi, pickled radish, and soy sauce seasoning, which were neatly presented.
Since jeon is the main dish, the focus is more on it than on the side dishes.
What I Ordered: Jipyeong Makgeolli
And of course, you can't have jeon without makgeolli!
I ordered Jipyeong makgeolli, which had a slight fizz and was not too sweet, pairing nicely with the kimchi jeon.
This combination is just perfect for enjoying greasy jeon!
Kimchi Jeon Review
Finally, the kimchi jeon arrived! It was generously served in two pieces and looked delicious.
While it was crispy, I was slightly disappointed by a hint of oil smell.
Fortunately, the strong spiciness of the kimchi helped cover it, but those sensitive to such flavors might notice it right away.
Still, the texture of the jeon itself was quite good.
Overall, the kimchi jeon was crispy but had a slight old oil smell, which was a downside.
However, it paired well with the makgeolli, and the quiet atmosphere makes it a nice place to chat and enjoy a drink.
