A Coastal Drive Down Memory Lane: Discovering a Hidden Duck Restaurant

Back when I was a office worker in Yeouido, I was constantly overwhelmed by the crowded subway commute between Gyeonggi-do and Seoul.

Feeling suffocated, I returned to my hometown and stumbled upon this restaurant while driving along the East Coast.

Ever since then, every year when I come back home, I make it a point to stop by while driving along the coast.

This drive has always been famous for its beauty, but it became even more popular during the pandemic when overseas travel was difficult, and many large cafes and pensions sprung up along the East Coast.

The weather was so clear and beautiful today that I went for a drive along the East Coast with a friend, reminiscing about our childhood haunts:

Gyeongju:

Bulguksa Temple, Seokguram Grotto, Girimsa Temple, Golgulsa Temple

Pohang:

Tomb of King Munmu, Gampo

Ulsan:

Jujeon Pebble Beach, Gangdong Jungja

We took a leisurely tour of this area, recalling our memories. As we approached this area, I suddenly had a craving for duck!

I had just blogged about the Mullae Duck Alley restaurant in Seoul, featured on Heo Young-man's 'Baekban Journey,' which made me crave duck even more.

As many of my blog readers know, I'm a coastal person. I lived in Seoul for the past 8 years and recently returned to my hometown.

I love meat but not fish, but I do enjoy seafood – I'm a picky coastal person. ^^

This area has a lot of seafood restaurants, but there aren't many places to eat meat. This restaurant seems to be the only one.

Anyway, that's how I accidentally found this place years ago.

I visit it every year when I come home from Seoul, and today I spontaneously decided to go again. ㅎㅎ

The restaurant's ocean view through the large windows reminds me of a small European town.

The first time I came here, I thought, "Duck restaurant here? They should open a cafe here!"

But for someone like me who prefers meat over seafood, it's a wonderful restaurant! ㅎㅎ

Recently, I've been revisiting restaurants I used to go to and trying to document them on my blog, but many have disappeared, which is heartbreaking. I'm so glad this restaurant is still here! ㅎㅎ

I was hoping to get a seat by the window with a good view, but it was packed right after lunchtime.

Oh! Luckily, a table by the window was just clearing out, so I got a seat!

We ordered fresh duck slices, smoked duck, marinated duck barbecue, and fried rice for the finish.

Honestly, it seems to be getting tastier and tastier. It seems like the flavor is constantly evolving?

The marinade was perfect for my taste.

It was my first time trying the fried rice today, and I regret not having it before because I was always too full from the meat. It was so delicious!

I'll definitely have the fried rice next time I come!

We ate a late lunch, so when we were leaving, the seats with the good view were empty, so I took some pictures and uploaded them at the top.
