As a gukbap (Korean rice soup) lover, as I mentioned in my previous post, I want to introduce a sundae gukbap (Korean blood sausage rice soup) restaurant that I recently visited and enjoyed so much!

It's called Sonkeun Grandma Sundae Gukbap - Gyeonji-dong Branch.

Address: 1st floor, 50-2, Ujeongguk-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul

Hours: Every day from 8 AM to 10 PM

Transportation: Within 10 minutes walking distance from Jonggak Station or Anguk Station

Parking: Not available (Use nearby paid parking / The Temple Stay Private Parking lot right next door is the cheapest nearby parking lot! 500 won for 10 minutes)

Ordered: Intestine Sundae Gukbap (No Sundae) - ₩10,000

I have a few favorite sundae gukbap places, and Sonkeun Grandma Sundae Gukbap in Gyeonji-dong has been added to my list!

It's a chain restaurant, so I think there are slight differences between each location, but I enjoyed the one in Gyeonji-dong so much. The staff was attentive and very friendly! There's a mother figure working in the kitchen and a male employee in the hall.

You have to look for the sign to find the location! The entrance to the store isn't facing the road, so it might be difficult to find the entrance.

When you come into the store, the menu is largely posted on the wall, and it seems like they sell things other than the basic menu!

I like intestines, so I hesitated between the regular sundae gukbap and the intestine sundae gukbap, but I ordered the intestine sundae gukbap without the sundae!

The food came out in less than 10 minutes, boiling hot. There was a lot of meat in it, and I slurped and sighed with satisfaction after my first bite.

⭐️ My 'How to Eat Sundae Gukbap' Method ⭐️

I add salted shrimp with the solids first to test the flavor, and then I only add the salted shrimp brine without the solids to adjust the seasoning!

And I add a lot of perilla seed powder!

I don't add any salt! Adding salt may bring out the umami, but I prefer to season and flavor it with salted shrimp.

I don't usually add green onions because I don't like them, but it came with green onions in it so I just ate it!

Instead of green onions, I ask for chili peppers and add them!

I sometimes add the spicy sauce (dadaegi) and sometimes I don't, but I used to add it all the time when I was younger, but now I like the white broth... So I add the spicy sauce when I'm about halfway done!

After seasoning it this way, I eat the solids first!

I put the shrimp solids from the salted shrimp and the leftover sliced chili peppers on the lid of the rice bowl!

If you put a generous amount of meat on a spoon, and add one or two shrimp and one chili pepper, it's applause-worthy!

I eat the solids from the gukbap first, and when there are only a few solids left, I put the rice in the gukbap!

The reason I leave a small amount of solids is because it's nice when some meat comes along when you put the rice in.

My rice bowl lid is caught in the picture. I eat it like that.

Kimchi and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) were served as side dishes, and I finished them all!

I finished the rice, but I couldn't finish the broth, but I think I would have if the person I was with hadn't finished eating... I left the broth because my companion was waiting for me to finish!

The store's entrance is inside the building and not facing the front, so I was worried that people wouldn't come often, even though it wasn't my store. That's how delicious it was. Fortunately, the owner said that a lot of office workers come during lunch. It was so delicious that I wished a lot of people would come and enjoy a meal there.

If you ever go to Insadong, I recommend it! If I had a foreign friend, I would definitely want to take them there.
